  1. 4 years, 2 browsers on Mozilla Branches For 1.0 RC1 · · Score: 3, Insightful

Really, there have been two browsers developed in 4 years. The intial project used the NS4 code as a starting point and eventually abandonded it as unusable. So, if you take out that initial time, you're probably looking at closer to 2 or 2.5 years. Really not bad when writing a product from scratch.

I think this is getting blown way out of proportion. Their not talking about charging you for every byte that goes over the wire. Most people can go to burgerking.com 10 times a day before exceeding any reasonable quota. As long as the quota is sensible, I really see this as a good thing.

  5. Re:Stopping because of ethics on First Human Clone Eight Weeks Along · · Score: 2

There are religious and ethical people who want to attach full human rights to arbitrarily small clusters of human cells (fertalized eggs, tiny embryo's, etc.).

Where would you draw the line then? When the baby is born? Well, it could survive on it's own much earlier than that. When it's capable of breathing air? Well, there may soon come a technology that would allow that to be done earlier. When the collection of cells looks more "human"? What defines the look of a human? You? I hope not. You end up being in a very hard to defend spot when you say that life is worth saving only when it has progressed to a certain point. The person who makes that decision better have some pretty exacting determining points.

I know "religious" points of view are not popular on /., but sometimes they are the correct views.

I don't know if you have kids or not, but I do know that my thinking on things like this has changed drastically since I had my son. The world looks a lot different when you love something so helpless.

  10. Re:What is Wrong? on GPS Wristwatch for Kids · · Score: 2

I used to think the same way that you do. When I'd see the $100 car seats that last about 4 months and the laws that require a kid to be in a car seat until they're like 3. But, I now have a 6 month old son, and let me tell you that changes things. If spending $100 will help him survive a car crash, as rare as that may be, then it's hard not to spend the money. I think this wrist band idea is meant for small children, not kids that want to run away.
