The reason why American love cars is freedom. Cars = freedom. If I have a car, I can drive wherever I want, whenever I want. I dont have to wait for a bus or a train. I can drive to Best Buy and buy a big tv, put it in the back of my SUV and take it home right away. Or I can go do the grocery store, buy food, and load up the back and not have to carry 10 bags on a bus or train. I can drive 100s of miles a day to different cities or different states. Visiting friends and family on my own time. I have the freedom to work anywhere in town and to get to work on my time. I start my job at 7am. There is no way I could get there at 7am by taking a bus from my house. By having a car, I have the freedom to live as far away from my place of employment as I want.
No, I dont supposed places charge more b/c of the cut-n-paste. I used to work in fast food when I was a teenager, and I know the mark up on pop is huge. That's why you can get free refils. Businesses make a lot of money on the sales of soft drinks and can afford to give you a free refil or two. 99 cents is still a profit.
I really dont care if a mom and pop store goes out of business either. Just like I dont care that the Horse and Buggy business died out too. That's the way it is sometimes. It's call progress. Just like audio cassette tapes made way for CDs and someday soon audio CDs will no longer be made.
It's Coborns right to sell anything at any price, and it's my right to buy or not to buy it at that price. I choose not to buy certain products there. I choose to buy some at Walmart once in a while. The same products I could be buying at other locations. Buy why pay more?
I bought my mower at Home Depot, it's a Toro and I love it. Snapper? No thanks. I wouldnt buy it at Walmart, Home Depot or anywhere else. My neighbor, who's old mower broke, should have spent the $99 on a Snapper, instead he just didnt mow the lawn for 3 months. $99 is affordable and will get the job done.
Is the bag from just Pepsi or Coke too? How about Dr. Pepper? Dont tell me I shouldnt have my Mountain Dew in the morning. I should have coffee right? yuck.
I guess it's a regional thing. Here in the midwest most people drive to work. Some do use public transportation(Usually to a downtown area), but most of us have cars.
I suppose in NYC or someplace out east it's different.
Of course someone might ask about how far you live way from the office. We would assume that you would be able to get to the office when needed.
Tell a job that you're going to walk or bicycle or even take the bus to work and they're a lot less likely to hire you.
Wow...someone actually asks that question at in interview?
"Says here you graduated from the U of M. Majored in Computer Science, Minor in Math. Impressive. Oh, and how will you be getting to work?"
I cant imagine someone asking that out of all of the questions there is to ask a perspective employee. So why would you tell someone how you will getting to work.
"oh by the way, just to let you know, I will be driving my own car to work every morning. Yeah, I got a 99 Pontiac Grand Am. Gets me from a to b".
Most large businesses give money to both parties. This link here shows what the "movie production" gave to the parties in the last 8 election cycles. It's almost 3 to 1 Democrat to Republican. I wouldnt say that the MPAA controls Bush.
CSI is a great show. I do like Miami, and NY is growing on me. As person of average intelligence, I do realize it's a tv show and it's purpose is to entertain and make the network money. 100 episodes, that's a lot of murders in Las Vegas. Im sure Vegas doesnt have a murder every week. I know it's just a show and it's not 100% accurate.
If I wanted accuracy I would watch 60 Minutes...er..wait a sec.
However, I wonder if anyone who watches the show may think twice before committing a crime because they think that too much evidence may be left behind. Heh..or the other hand, maybe they will try harder not to leave so much evidence.
All you have to do is keep enough people scared enough about a problem, and they'll vote for you even if everything you have done about the problem has made it worse.
I agree. The democrats have been scaring seniors for years now about social security and medicare, and they havent done crap.
Wrong, Bush won the popular vote. You people were screaming 4 years ago about how Gore won the popular vote. Now, you will have nothing to bitch about (well Im sure you will).
I went to school when I was an operator, got my degree, then became a programmer. I got my degree, a career, car, wife, then a house and baby. I made sure I was as secure as possible before I did anything that needed that security to be there.
I dont know your situation, and I wont assume, but I just wanted to let people know it's not all doom and gloom. Just work hard, and make the right decisions, and you can be successful.:)
Well, I been getting raises since I started with my company. I was a operator, then I got promoted to programmer. The outlook for the next is good too with a possible promotion and a 12% raise. I bought a house and recently had a baby.
Maybe you should have obeyed the rules if you wanted more money. It's about the hard work man...yeah, like hanging out on/.;)
If the FCC mandates that broadcasters go digital, but since very few have an HDTV wouldnt their ratings go down? So yeah, people not having a HDTV *IS* their problem.
Im still able to play PS2, watch DVDs and VHS tapes on my "old" 25" perfectly good tv.
Amazing post. I can use this to explain to others.
The best comment I have read on Slashdot in a long time.

Actually, depending on the interest rate (say 5%), you could have a total balance over $300,000 (before taxes)
For a person in the 1800s, a house at $300k, would be HUGE. Depending upon where you live of course.
Yes, I realize interest rates change, and there was the depression, etc, etc,
I don't want to hear how the US targets innocents ever again.
From any news story or any terrorist group.

Im sure you only drink water and milk right?
Exactly, Walmart sells a lot more than just electronics and stuff NOT made in the USA.
Im guessing only the electronic's dept evil? Well, besides management right?
So dont buy the $30 P.o.S. nobody is forcing you. You can buy whatever dvd player you want, where ever you want.
Just remember that sometimes those P.o.S. players can play all sorts of file formats, and have hacking abilities. Apex anyone?
The $150 player may not even play DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs. God forbid RWs.
So the 2-liter of Pepsi I bought for 99 Cents at WalMart is not at the same quality as the 2-liter of Pepsi they sell at Coborns for $1.69?
It tastes the same to me, maybe even sweeter b/c I saved 69 cents per bottle. And I buy a lot of pop.
(Coborns is a local grocery store with overpriced pop)
How about this?
Pepsi 2 Liter prices
Walmart 99 cents
Coborns $1.69
Cub Foods $1.39
So does that mean the the Cub Foods Pepsi, is better than the Walmart Pepsi, but not as good as the Coborns?
Curling is a winter sport.
It's not about seeing the movie, it's about being in line and playing with my Transformer toys.
Im getting in line at a theater, right now!!

Yeah, at the time of this post, oil prices are down and the stock market is up 132 points.
Your point?
Also, DirecTivos do not have mpeg encoders, therefore are cheaper.

oh and cutting and pasting is so hard to do.
Blumenthal's suit was dropped and he had to pay
Drudge a settlement, yeah, Sidney paid Drudge.
From The Drudge Report

and another
AOL was also sued by Blumenthal, but was dissmissed by a federal judge.

Drudge hasnt "slipped into obscurity". He has a radio show on Sunday nights, and over 4 million hits to his web site every day.
