I've always thought that plain text "books" should be more then "plain text". More like HTML or that damned XML everyone keeps talking about.
While the original would be formatted to display on screen with all the bells and whistles it could also be "downsampled" to lower quality for other devices like a PDA or something.
I just can't see these compaired to a Dell Axim... sure it's PocketPC but it's features vs. price is great.
I'm just wondering if I should get one now or if Dell's planning on a new version any time soon. (Wouldn't mind Wifi or BT, then it'd be completely sold!)
Um.. Couldn't this be interpreted as a strike against the GPL and open standards?
If we take your statements as fact then MS wouldn't nearly be in the posistion that it is now.
Isn't this just more of a reason why companies should keep their info to themselves?
(Not that I agree with that statment)
I sometimes feel that getting a good Office Suite shouldn't be dependend on a.doc reader/writer but should be based on interface. If there was a better program out there.doc compatability wouldn't be as important...
I've always thought that they should have added digits to the end not the beginning...
If I have a number: 1 (123) 555-1234
That should be my phone number.
If I have a pager it could be: 1 (123) 555-1234-2 Fax Machine: 1 (123) 555-1234-3 Cell Phone: 1 (123) 555-1234-4 Etc....
If you could standardize the the extentions it would make it a lot easier to to contact someone. Remember one phone number and just select the service you want....
Diamond Age *killed* me... there was so much cool technology in the book and just when it seemed like something was actually going to happen the book ends.
It's because of Diamond Age that I haven't read Zodiac yet... I don't want to be let down.
After hearing about Bruce Sterling I found a copy of Islands in the Net in a used bookstore.
From what I remember the novel was pretty good with a nice "flow" to it... you kept wanting to turn the page. Then about two chapters from the end he pulls the handbrake and makes the story painfull to finish.
I've never been able to bring myself to read another one by him. Anyone with thoughts about his other books?
Make it the background of say an Indiglo(?) watch and you got something I think would sell. :)
Perhaps that's for the best, Slim Picken's(??) played his role totally straight in Dr. Strangelove...
:)
All the better I think.
I'm sorry, which department is this from?
Oh yes, I know the idea behind the Philosopher's Stone, but I don't get the idea of "acknowledging" alchemy...
:)
Like the states doesn't admit that Alchemy existed? (As in the practice, not that it actually worked.
And we do acknowledge philossopy. But alchemy? Hmmm.
What do you mean by this?
[sarcasm]
;-)
*PPPTTHHHH*
"Vast majority" indeed...
I experience the joyous rapture of angels voices on EACH SINGLE SONG on my collection of *562* albums.
Perhaps you buy the wrong albums. (Yes, that includes both Milli Vanilli cd's you keep under your bed and secretly listen to at night...)
[/sarcasm]
Actually... That was uncalled for. It just irks me when people try to say what's good music and what's not.
except country of course... that's just from the devil himself.

But I'm just babbleing...
"And the best way to do this is to create an application that gives them what they need."
I hope everyone is paying attention to what is being said....

Starship Troopers (the movie) style "Would you like to know more?" questions popping up could be kinda cool... :)
From what I remember reading, Whitehouse.com is for a magazine called "Whitehouse".
Which in turn was named after a woman (" Whitehouse") in the 70's, 80's, 90's(????) who was a outspoken opponent of porn.
A porn publisher at the time decided to have a little fun with right to free speech and named his next mag after her.
I do not think she was amused.
But then again... maybe this story wasn't true when I read it.
I can't tell who this joke is on... Zelot's who think this is the way it must be, or Newbie's who just want to run this "Linux" thing...
I read the artical... but I don't remember seeing "PDA" there anywhere.... ...now if you had said "MP3" market I could understand....
I've only heard of women like that....
Um.. Couldn't this be interpreted as a strike against the GPL and open standards?

O.k.. I've just *got* to ask... which movie is this?
*Real-Time Recording* or Editing?
I think he's refering to storing a video feed in real time.
Tho I have no idea if his statment is accurate or not.
The scary thing is I've seen posts like this in the past but they were completely serious.... :-/

*groan*
Do you have problems making friends?
Um.. you think that might be over-reacting just a little bit? :)
I don't have to go without it, now that I'm back in school my TV time is greatly reduced and I'm missing it already. :(

A lot of amature observatories have roofs that roll off. Based on that picture I'd be willing to guess that it's the same way here.
Here's an example.
