If Windows 3.0/3.1 was Microsoft's first crack at an OS you might have a point comparing it to Linux 1.x. Otherwise, you are just making an ass out of yourself.
None of the OSDN pages break my non-IE browser, numbnut. Pages that break, crash or otherwise cause a miserable viewing experience were the point of the parents database. Not W3C compliance. Go troll somewhere else.
Public schools are tax-funded conformity factories. Lumping large groups of closely aged children into the same area has produced a culture of peer pressure, materialism and greed. "Helps find common values and respect for values not held in common"? Are you kidding me? That's got to be the biggest line of BS I've read on/. in a long time.
I'm interested in learning how you know about my ability, or apparent lack thereof, to have a conversation with "ordinary" people. It seems you are quite capable of making sweeping generalizations, so I'd like to find out more about your other talents.
...if you already own a decent PC. My PC is a sunk cost. Why spend several hundred dollars just to play 1 game when it's coming out for a platform you already own?
You clearly have no gasp on the concept of "theft". It's unauthorized copying. Is it illegal? Yep. Is it wrong? Yep. Is it theft? Only if they have been deprived of the software, which is obviously not the case. Have they been deprived of money? Only if you can prove it would have been purchased otherwise. So no, it's not theft, and calling it that is only playing into the hands of the media controllers.
Does it come as so much of a shock to anyone that someone would play Devil's Advocate? And no, I may not be particularly good at it, but I'm working on it.
We already have plenty of WinTrolls here at Slashdot, we don't need anymore, thanks.
But where is the discussion on kernel.org? The mailing list is not the same, sometimes there are insightful bits posted on Slashdot about the latest kernel. Too bad your was not one of them.
And I've spent 8 hours trying to resolve a soundcard/video card conflict on a friend's Windows computer, so what's the point of all this crying? If you find Linux to be so hard for you, then don't use Linux. Trust me, attitudes like yours won't be missed.
Sometimes canceling your service pays off

My roommate attempted to cancel his cable connection (TV, not internet)last summer. For three weeks he got a busy signal. When he finally got through, he hold them that he'd been trying to cancel for weeks and was not going to pay for an additional month. After a little arm twisting they agreed, credited his account and stopped billing him. But for some reason they can't figure out how to shut off the service. He tried telling them about it several times, but gave up in the end. So for the past 10 months he's been getting free cable:) Talk about being inept.
There is a collective "you" that assumes responsibility for actions committed in the past, the idea of owning up to "the sins of the fathers." As an American, I am a part of the group that committed atrocities toward the Native American Indians, whether I killed anyone personally or not. This idea of collective responsibility is markedly absent from the staunchly individualistic American population, as you have so clearly demonstrated.
(Unless, of course, you are filing a lawsuit, in which case everyone is to blame, except yourself.)
Repeat after me, moron, "THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE ON SLASHDOT WITH MANY DIFFERENT OPINIONS." Unless you have been tracking individual users posting anti-MPAA comments and then also posting pro-Star Wars comments, you cannont claim "hypocrisy."
Let's see. I can't even remember ever seeeing a BSOD on a Linux box. You have to configure it properly, which even a monkey can do. Redhat 7.2 has no need to reboot ever unless you modify the kernel. Otherwise it's not a big deal. If you want real support for Windows you have to pay for it.
Did you ever stop to think that Red Hat might not be offering a Windows rebate because nearly every PC already comes with Windows? That would essentially be giving *everyone* a rebate. Why bother, you could just lower the price of Red Hat. A Windows rebate makes no sense.
Geeze. It's not about being late or early, it's about management viewing themselves as better than everyone else in the company. Most companies have "management" parking spots in the front so that they can arrive at any time and always have a good spot. David Packard showed his employees that he was one of them by not giving himself a special parking spot.

The only thing worse than a Microsoft Troll is a Microsoft troll who doesn't know what "irony" means.

Jeeze, how many times must this lame cliche be posted?
Filling that tooth with a poisonous gas? Talk about a terrorist device, no thanks!

A lot of us are at work and are forced to use the company browser (IE), dumbass.
BTW, weak troll.
There are plenty of pro-Microsoft moderators around here these days, smartass, no need to cry about that.

Slamming the GPL is hardly a response to the parents excellent points. I'm sorry but I find your trolls laughable.
It's "lose." Here we go:
I will lose the bet.
My pants are too loose.
Got it? Jeeze.

Of course, I should make that American AND British tendancies, being that you are from the UK.

And Rail on posts railing MS.
You are painfully unoriginal.

Crap, IHBT again...
Except maybe Alan Cox, who I've seen post here from time to time.

Yes, I know, IHBT.
