  1. Mod Parent Up on Obama To Launch Website For Tracking Tax Expenditures · · Score: 0

As a product of one of the women the parent mentions, I agree with pretty much every word there; the government makes it viable for women to produce children that, more often than not, amount to nothing, for that extra six hundred dollars a month from raping the system.

It's strange, but there does seem to be a culture around cheating the government through mass-reproduction and claiming all these faux mental issues (ADD? Seriously, they're kids; they'll be energetic!), which is passed down, more often than not, to the children of these women.

This is a cancer in society that ought to be cut out quickly, though as long as there are people that genuinely deserve help, there will be people faking injury to live free and lazy. It seems the only ways to stop this abuse are to shut the system down or change the way claims are evaluated.

  9. Gaming Skipping Generations on Most Parents Don't Game With Their Kids · · Score: 0

My grandmother actually plays games. She was into stuff like Secret of Mana, Zelda, Might and Magic, and Diablo way back when; that's actually what got me into it. My father only played games like that so he could laugh as he punched enemies with a shield in his other hand.

Now, all she plays is Everquest, but I can't play with her because of the monthly fee. I admit, it'd be fun to play together, despite the fact that we play completely differently in MMO's.

On the other hand, there's my father, who yells at me if I use a shotgun or pistol in SOCOM instead of a scope and rifle, or if I take too long to pick either a magic or physical attack in LotR: The Third Age, or even if I beat him at anything. Needless to say, we don't play very well together.

So, perhaps gaming habits are just recessive genes in certain families?

  14. Re:Good plan. on Olin College — Re-Engineering Engineering · · Score: 0

I'll probably do that, unless my school has either no teacher for the class (severely understaffed) or some outlandish requirement (you have to score proficient on a mock test to get into any class related to the subject tested, which means we have crowded and diluted AP classes), even if I might have to take it as an independent study.

Granted, the teacher that teaches the material doesn't particularly care for me for shrugging off all of her homework and scoring better than most other students on the final.

  15. Good plan. on Olin College — Re-Engineering Engineering · · Score: 2, Interesting

Now, let's see it at other levels of communication.

I, as a student of a public high school in America, take in more force-fed facts that are expected to be regurgitated, and get fewer and fewer chances to let my creative juices flow. Rather than writing that a person thinks something happened, I think someone could get more of a benefit out of writing about why it happened.

Perhaps that's why all forms of math are just so hard for me to wrap my head around; I know that things work, but I don't see why it's useful.

That aside, in a post-No-Child-Left-Educated world, would there be any creativity left to teach anything like this?

I'm not a teacher, nor am I always a realist, so I might just be thinking too optimistically about this. I guess it'd be best to just wait and see.
