I'm fairly sure the "nuclear winter" thing was "proven" (as much as it could be without, you know, testing it) to not really happen. Can't find anything about it at the moment, so maybe I'm making that up. Still, even that might not save you.:P
Nonetheless, geologically speaking we're not quite out of an ice age yet, so it's to be expected that things are warming. As far as the planet is concerned, things like "snow" in the Northern Hemisphere anywhere south of extreme northern Canada are just part of a temporary phase it's going through. Just because we've gotten used to it like this doesn't mean that Earth cares about us.:P
VB.Net is better, mainly because it is C# with different syntax that requires more typing. If you're going to do that, just do C# in the first place; the syntax will translate better to other languages.
Someone suggested Javascript, I think that's a good idea, though it can be hard to debug. PHP might be good too.
I think GW-BASIC is a good starting language, it worked for me.:P

No WoW for the 360

The majority of Blizzard's customer base -- 12-year-old fanboys -- will be equally annoying no matter what platform they play on.
I've never played WOW, but if annoying 12-year-old fanboys are its base, it should be a great match for the XBox.
GPS is critical and planes will crash without it, huh? I hadn't realized computers and satellites came before flight. I guess the new tech tree in Civ 4, where you can discovery rockets before flight, is correct after all.
Why the hell are we putting these political stories up now? Bad enough that we do it at all, but Slashdot is fast becoming a kind of geeky Daily Kos; Taco and all you other editors...you guys have to be approving this stuff. Non-technical political articles shouldn't be posted, simply because this isn't the place for them. What's next? Stories about the CIA bombing the Twin Towers on Bush's orders? A guest column from Michael Moore? What's else?
I see you're already getting modded back down, so I'll quote your entire post so there's another copy.
Slashdot has posted articles from Daily Kos before, btw. It was what made me give up on the Politics section originally. I turned it back on after the election, but it really hasn't gotten any better. May be time to turn it off again.
Indeed... I don't think the comparison works very well anyway. For example, in two-player sex, you often have to pay extra to have the other player call you a gay Mexican Jew lizard, whereas in multiplayer games online, things like that just happen all the time for no extra cost.
You can have it delete all cookies you don't want upon exiting the browser. Load it up, find the cookies you do want to keep (Slashdot login, for example), protect them, and then switch on the extension's "delete cookies on exit". It will delete all non-protected cookies. So you can keep cookies on for those sites that require them, even save cookies you want to save, but permenant or long-term tracking cookies can't do much.
Some people are posting "oh the comments weren't so bad" with a link to whatever used to be posted.
That's because the comments you see being posted on other sites isn't really what they were concerned about. Of course, most people posting this apparently read DemocraticUnderground, so it's not really worth responding to them, but just in case anyone else falls for it.
Here's a link to discussion with the executive editor of the Post website:
Pensacola, Fla.: After reading the over 400 of the comments in question, which by the way, were saved by someone before they were removed, I saw no hate speech, one four letter word, and I can't imagine what you found so offensive as to remove them. Could you please explain exactly what problem you had with them?
Jim Brady: You were reading the ones that were posted live. There were a few hundred others that were removed the site altogether, and those would not be on the page you're looking at.
and:
Jim Brady: As I said earlier, that screen shot is only what was live, not what we blocked. There's no way for you to see what we blocked, and you should be happy about that, believe me. I learned some new words this week.
Of course, this is obviously spoken like someone who has never read Slashdot at -1.:)
Metro Smartrip cards don't have any personal ID or financial information on them, and nothing else in my wallet has an RFID chip in it. (I'm not the original poster, but I thought the same thing when I read the article [ok, the summary].)
Besides, if someone's waving an RFID reader around my ass, I'd think I'd notice. These things don't have much of a range, you know.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 has sold over 600,000 units so far and is on track to sell over 4.5 million consoles by the end of the business year.
In other news, the average temperature here increased from 30F to 50F since the beginning of the year -- it's on track to reach 510F by the end of the year.
Exactly, that's so lame when people do that.
(...waiting...)

VB represents all that is soulless and wrong.

Don't you think that's totally spam? It's lubricated! Well, I'm phasing.
Pictures please!
You want to see a picture of a Slashdotter doing that particular activity? I'll pass thanks, I just ate..
Oh, I thought "Google and Open Source" was going to be the new name for Slashdot.
I should have known that was wrong.. if that were happening, it'd have to be "Google, Apple, and Open Source".
Help me out here. If it was warmer in 800 AD, what 'human interferance' caused the global warming in the 9th century?
Vikings in SUVs, duh.

You've made me feel better... My job may be boring at times, but at least it's not Access/Excel VBA macros.
I would think that it's tough for pirates to download games... I can't imagine you'd be able to get much bandwidth out there on the high seas.
No slashdotter will ever get a chance at women that hot
I know one slashdotter who got to kiss Ashley Judd. does that count?
Try the CookieCuller extension: http://cookieculler.mozdev.org/
You can have it delete all cookies you don't want upon exiting the browser. I'll just stick with my lonely heart, thanks. I've heard that owning one of those is much better than owning a broken one.

Despite costing half as much, the GameCube occupied a distand third place in market share.
That's true, except of course on this planet (which we call "Earth", welcome!), where the Gamecube sales numbers were well ahead of the XBox.

and sexy women who start IMing you naked pictures of themselves mere seconds after a story goes live
Is this something new? Last time I got a submission accepted (probably about 5 years ago if not more), this didn't happen.
Did you even read the summary? Sony leased the wallspace: whatever you want to call it, it's not "vandalous".
If this guy made toilet paper, he'd call it "Butt Wiper".
What color are the Beagle 2's eyes?
Blue! One blue that way, onto the Martian ground, and.. er, the other one did the same thing.
Well, Indiana Jones beat a tank, and he's pretty tough. And on this basis, I feel Bruce Lee could probably beat Indiana Jones.
:)
So the question becomes: Is this sort of thing transitive?
I was going to make a redundant complaint about such an obvious story-vertisement, but that post made the story worth it. Well played.
