I don't even see why there is a discussion going on here. Seriously, nothing could possibly be easier than getting an old box, installing a netinstall cd of debian http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ setting up a raid1 or 5 during the installation. Once it is installed and reboots (10 minutes), then use aptitude to install your NAS stuff, either samba or nfs. Very easy. It gets tricker to have different levels of users with different permissions but it can be done, the tutorials are out there. I run a min install of debian on everything I have. No I have never done a NAS solution but I saw a guy do it once on a movie
Beats the heck out of a cheesy slow $300+ embeded solution.
I agree. Because the most important part of a president is whether he uses an ipod or zune or whether he will run broadband lines into small rural towns (lol bridge to no where anyone?)
Hello me mighty windows user. Me stick right hand on mouse and left thumb up butt and click pretty buttons. Me ok with slow network connectivity after a suspend and will gladly wait for the fix to come down the pipe in 7 years. And me very happy that with every service pack me install that the windows now runs slower and slower. Me very happy yes
Is this really a good idea? It seems that Atheros is just dumping this source out onto the web saying "Fix it, we don't want to spend any more of our time on this"
Sure have at. Just make sure that you get him the linux version. And also make sure to protect him from the evils of the internet, chatrooms, IM, porno sites, pointless forums, etc. A good way to filter the net is to use a firwall distrobution like smoothwall and install squid guard. Someone made an easy install mod for smoothwall over here: http://www.urlfilter.net/
Gridlock in the air, grid lock on the ground, but what about possible grid lock in the satellite orbits? When are those things going to start crashing into one another? I know there is an awful lot of them up there....
absolutly worthless. They couldn't even get a 1ghz overclock on that think with liquid nitrogen? Remember those amd thunderbird cpus a few years ago that could overclock 1ghz+ over the stock speed and only using air cooling?
Sofia was one of the first aircraft I got to work on when I was employed by L3 in Waco, TX back in 2005. They started working on it back in 1994. Talk about delays...
On the sheetmetal side of things I was really not impressed at all. Horrible supervisors and everything mismanaged. ANd there really was not place to put that plane. It was always getting moved from hanger to hanger every few months. Which lead to all of the parts getting misplaced and lost.
A whole crew of mechanics would spend several days a month just walking around from hanger to hanger looking for missing parts. But yea the telescope it pretty cool at least.
Ubuntu and derivatives are bloated slow crap

You can't tell me that a 500mb minimum install of debian with kde/gnome/what ever is going to be slow.
I agree, a fresh install of xp with all services turned off is pretty perky. But come back in 6 months (if it is even still booting) and see how perky it is. Plus you can't buy XP any more. Which means you probably installed a highly illegal copy on that box. So here, stick some vista on it and blow it out your ass.
I only use linux. Now I can't pirate games anymore

Well for one, "THIS" hasn't be proven yet.

What a great idea. Next up, a C compiler that compiles in all 3 versions of C
Powered by Microsoft

because a minimum install of debian testing works better.
Talking about capitalism and having to work -1 for you
