When I saw the escape article yesterday, I was hoping he'd die in a firey, bloody shoot out.
It's a shame that he killed his family though, what a dirt bag.
Oh well, for everyone who cursed the spam in their inbox hoping that the person who sent it would die, they got their wish.
Ok - who's the next biggest spam king?
If I patent the practice of patent trolling, it will require patent trolls to pay me $1M per patent troll case filed, and $10M for each case won, as well as paying for the legal fees of the defendant.
The royalties payed to me will be used help the defendant company further develop the patented technology in question. HA.
I agree, build the damn hardware and screw Microsoft.
That's like delaying the release of a new car model because there's one person who won't fit in it.
Where are my mod points when I need them.
Nice post - good to see some sense around here;)
People need to understand Volt !== Prius.
Prius is a gasoline hybrid. Volt is an electric car with backup gas generator.
Big difference, and big pardigm shift.
I don't know what the hell he was talking about either. The words "Windows" and "proprietary" shouldn't be uttered in the same sentence as Openmoko.
I think it seems pretty good for the first production iteration. That's a huge undertaking to develop a complete hardware/software phone platform.
I think the Freerunner and Openmoko have the power to shake things up a bit when they become more polished, and more general consumer ready.
It needs to be marketed on 2 fronts:
open hackability for us geeks
sleek design, media features, and run on any network for mass audiences.
Case in point - Urban Terror 4. Free, opensource game based on the Quake3 engine.
It's fun, looks great, cross platform, and doesn't require heavy duty hardware to run it.
It never ceases to amaze me that even the lowest of the low scumbag criminals can form crime rings and organize into a hierarchical management structure.
And it's always been that way.
The booze runners of the 20's and 30's to the crack dealers of the 80's, and everything before and after.
They have pretty much corporate org charts.
I guess it's human nature to follow the rules/leader. Some just choose different sides of the law.
I've said it before...open source games will improve this.
Sure, they might not have the latest engines, but many good, free, cross platform games have come from the open sourcing of the Quake3 engine (UrbanTerror)
It's a great game, and Windows, Mac, and Linux (32 and 64 bit Linux) users can all play it, for free. In my opinion its a commerical quality game, or damn close to it.
Manufacturers should opensource their old unloved game engines so they can live on as free games for all!
Even if they offered free (or cheap) API access to thier proprietary engines.
Of course this will bring up the money making point. How will vendors develop new game engines if they don't make any money.
That I can't answer
They'll be cheap enough for me when AOL sends it's latest bloated version on a 128GB SSD disk in my junk mail. HA, that would be sweet.
Like the old days of free DVD/CD cases.
Haha - yeah. I posted a reply about that in another comment in this thread.
That was very funny:)
Does that mean they'll come out with Ubuntu Premier Ultimate Super-Duper Edtion?
What would that be? The whole apt package repository snapshot on a bunch of DVDs? - HA
LIke I said in my other post - Ever Linux is (or can be) the Ultimate addition. You can build it however you want.
Now that older game engines are becoming open source (like Quake 1,2, and 3) many new games are being built from them. UrbanTerror for example, as well as several others built on the Q3 engine. It's a great game, and it runs on Linux, Windows and Mac.
I have a 64bit Linux version of Urban Terror that runs awesome.
I think we'll see more non-commerical games for Linux in the very near future.
I think after they become popular, we'll see the commercial game vendors making Linux ports to cash in on that growing market.
You're paying $20 for a pretty box, pressed CD, shelf space, and maybe some printed docs.
The OS is still free;)
I hope they give some back to some of the OSS projects that make Ubuntu (and Linux as a whole) great
The comments people left at on the best buy site are actually pretty good, and many were coming from non-tech people.
They basically raved about how much they liked Ubuntu, and how you don't need tons of horsepower to run it.
And nobody said anything stupid like "I couldn't find Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, so I went back to Windows"
This could be another step for Linux reaching the masses.:)
I know - but what if you could skip all the lines and just walk onto the plane if you agreed to wear the device?
Hmm, tough call. That's probably less secure. Damn.
Agreed -- I like being able to have a stripped down system if I want. My web server doesn't need X, audio, printing, ldap and lots of other support I don't use.
I have less stuff to maintain, because I don't build the box the extras I don't need to begin with.
Ubuntu and others are nice, but when I'm done installing one, I have no idea what it did during it's install.
What is viacom going to do with the user data? Start suing youtube viewers?
Way to copy RIAA and SCO.
RIAA and SCO should sue viacom for totally rocking their style.
Yeah, sometimes it's pretty funny what it comes up with for directions.
You are off route
Please turn around
Turn left at the next intersection, then turn left
Do you wish to recalcuate your route [Y/N]
GPS devices should have the following phase added:
Clearly you're not following my directions, so you're on your fscking own ...ha:)
If I'm running the GPS in my car, I find myself waiting for it to tell me where to go even if I have a good idea of the directions.
I feel like it cripples my sense of direction when I rely on it too much. I'm sure these combat systems could do the same thing
That's true, if nobody buys it, you do have basically an irrelevant toy.
I hope the average US user sees how nice it is to have an iPhone like device that's not tied to a single carrier. - my $0.02
Busted!

Give people space, and they will fill it.
It's true for both Gigabytes, and square feet.

They don't want to tarnish their good name.
