Microsoft's large marketshare compared to Apple's is rather grounded in the critical necessity of certain Windows-only applications for a lot of users instead of the superiority of the OS.
Microsoft's EULA is - for example - not legally enforcable in Europe. If they shut down your software I'm pretty sure you could go to a court and get at least reimbursement. They can't override local laws with their EULAs.
What I find disgusting about the whole situation was that the police were going to come and drag their kids to school. If that doesn't scream 1984 Orwellian dystopia I don't know what does.
That is quite usual in Germany if kids don't appear at school for some time without a legitimate excuse. The parents will additionally be sued with a fine in the range of about two to three months incomes for the first offense and imprisonment for following offenses (which would probably be on probation for the second offense). So nothibg to joke with here...
Of course, because they are prepared to comply with the law means that you cannot continue to download copyright material to which you have no implied right with impunity. Now you might have to face the consequences of your actions in much the same way as you would expect to be treated if you broke any other law.
Wrong - you can keep downloading as much stuff as you want. Just uploading is problematic from a legal standpoint in Germany.
Basically being employed is nothing more than a business transaction. You provide work capacity and get paid for it and as soon as either party wants to end the contract it is free to do so. How a corporation is handling strategic decisions internally (i.e. "ruled by a junta") has nothing to do with the working contract from my point of view.
I've seen some ads by Microsoft about the lower TCO of Windows compared to Linux with testimonials by Continental AG and some other companies printed double-sided in Linux magazines. Obviously that's part of the strategy to beat Linux although I (and probably most readers) found it quite hilarious.

Taxation is very profitable as well. I'd rather say that alcohol would be forbidden if it had not already been historically established for centuries.

Dear Bot, you just failed the Turing test...

Why doesn't that surprise me a bit at all?
Does anyone "need" 1900x1200? I doubt it.
You don't need a computer at all. You can just sit in a cave and eat whatever crawls below your feet.
Sure, you're right that the system does not work if no one is uploading anything. Just wanted to point out that downloaders are not prosecuted.

I'd rather think that most people just don't want to pay the exaggerated prices but would very well be willing to pay a reasonable amount.

64 pixels in a two-dimensional arrangement just lead to a simple quadratic 8x8 image while it's not straight-forward what to do with 60 pixels.

Mine does - so it probably is safe to assume that at least a few others do as well.
You should probably check your irony detector.
Read books on dealing with dysfunctional organizations; over time, you might be able to improve the place.
Can you give good recommendations for books on that matter?

True, but you can import games from Austria or some other country without any problems.
You have to remember we are on Slashdot here. No one RTFA. ;-)
I remember reading somewhere that turning the cellphone (depending on the model) off doesn't prohibit tracking. Any technical info on this?
This sounds a lot like XTC to me... Sure you took the right pills? ;-)
