It's a poor translation with little context.
It was "youths" -- teenagers and young men.
Oh, well that's OK then, there's nothing wrong with feeding adolescents to bears.
Baldness was a symptom of one of the diseases that would be labeled "leprosy", so this was about equivalent to saying he had AIDS/cancer/whatever (with a much harsher social stigma).
So? Baldness can also be a symptom of old age, radiation sickness, and being lit on fire. Making fun of someone for being bald is OK, but insinuating that they're a leper should be punishable by death?
Also, 42 guys died. I can't be certain, but I doubt that was everyone. A crowd of 42+ young men mocking him would be a serious threat to his life.
I can't be certain either, but they might have been riding dinosaurs. That would be pretty scary, right? No wonder God killed them.
Didn't you get the memo? We've moved on from not reading TFA, now people don't even read the comments. In anticipation of the next stage of this trend I am going to start posting to slashdot by blindfolding myself and throwing random objects at the keyboard.
Yes, it's completely idiotic. What these geniuses have done has nothing to do with security - they have created a bad, amateur acting detector that boasts ~80% accuracy.
So we should sell this device to Hollywood instead. On second thought, scratch that - the device would probably explode within the first 30 minutes of use.
TS: I expect that in the next generation we'll write 100 percent of our rendering code in a real programming language-not DirectX, not OpenGL, but a language like C++ or CUDA. A real programming language unconstrained by weird API restrictions. Whether that runs on NVIDIA hardware, Intel hardware or ATI hardware is really an independent question. You could potentially run it on any hardware that's capable of running general-purpose code efficiently.
Are you serious? People don't even RTFA, let alone research another slashdotter's posting history and journal entries before replying.
Heck, I didn't even finish reading your post before I wrote this reply!
Your illegal drugs = seatbelts analogy doesn't really work. Making drugs illegal to protect people from themselves would be more akin to outlawing cars to prevent car accidents. Seatbelt laws are much more similar to the government regulating the sale and use of tobacco and alcohol. Besides, where do you draw the line? Why are alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine legal and other drugs illegal? And while you're busy protecting people from themselves, what about protecting people from each other? The guy smoking a cigarette beside me on the sidewalk is certainly a greater threat to my health than the junkie shooting heroin in the alley behind me.
If this technology ever becomes viable, I know what we should cloak first.
Compared to Javadocs, I'd say man pages are a gift from the dieties.
What's a diety? A god that's trying to lose weight?
Foolish Earth meat-creature, there are no aliens here! Just thinking about this ridiculous idea makes my vocal tubes swell with mirth! Ho ho!

My favourite bit is when God sends she-bears to kill 42 children because they called Elisha "bald-head".
1-2-3-4-5
two long what?
Long time no see! Let's go burn one man.
I know you feel like celebrating, but that's no excuse to go around burning people.

Insolvent hedgehogs? What are you going on about?
Now we just need to find the surface of the Universe, and we'll be able to scan it.
Return it to whom? The kid working at Gamestop isn't going to pass your complaints on to EA.
Some are absolute genius!
You just missed a perfect opportunity to say they were brillant.
Does this sound idiotic to anyone else?

The machine also detected people who were sneaking in an exaggerated fashion, wringing their hands menacingly, and wearing big black mustaches.
Version 2 should be able to detect people who are cackling evilly and tying young women to railway tracks.

'tis an outright lie, ye scurvy dog! They can't be havin' a patent on piratin', thar be plenty o' prior arrrrt.
Slashdot shows websites can get by with lots of ACs
Wow, your sig and comment are diametrically opposed to one another.
Not necessarily, it all depends on what the glass is half full of.

I guess you're not a quilt then.

You gave your Grandpa to a bird sanctuary?
