The question I always had about this- if they can take one sample from one animal and clone it in a vat and feed this world, will the vegans be ok with that? As someone who's sister is vegan, the answer to that is no, plan and simple. When one is a vegan, they refuse to eat any animal products at all, which ranges from meat, to milk, and to the gelatin that's in chewing gum. Personally, I think the cloning a good idea provided there are no heath issues, but I don't think it'll satisfy the vegans.

  13. Microsoft's Linux replacement on Microsoft Trying To Appeal to the Unix Crowd? · · Score: 1

The aim of UNG is to write complete GNU-like tools and frameworks that will be completely compatible with existing GNU software and standards. These tools will run natively on Vista. This means that software written for the GNU environment will be able to compile and run on Vista with little or no modifications. Major software currently running on GNU/Linux will be able to run natively on Vista. Sounds like Microsoft still wants to take out Linux, but instead of trying to force their own tools upon its users, they'll allow GNU tools and other programs to be substituted instead.

Of course, this sounds too good to be true. What will be used to compile said programs? When they say "little" modification, what is being implied? Will the GPL linking be forbidden in some way when you compile it on Vista?

You want the FDA to get anal retentive on your medications, fine. Just realize those expensive drugs are going to get a little more expensive and sick people who are poor might not be able to afford them anymore. Why wouldn't you want the FDA to be anal retentive? Heck, that's their job, to make sure the food and medication I take won't kill me!
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for the safety regulation of most types of foods, dietary supplements, drugs, vaccines, biological medical products, blood products, medical devices, radiation-emitting devices, veterinary products, and cosmetics. So as you can see, the FDA has a pretty huge task and anything less then anal could potentially kill more people than those who couldn't afford it. Personally, I feel the drug companies shouldn't be allowed to advertise. (who actually goes to their doctor and specifically asks for Lipitor?) Perhaps that extra cash could be used to make the drugs a little more cheaper.

But since the OS is Suse, you still pay a Microsoft tax, am I right? Unless there's something I missed in Microsoft's patent deal, the only money Microsoft gets is by buying SuSE coupons from Novell. Then, they distribute the coupons to its "customers" and collect the revenue. Unless Lenovo bought these coupons from Microsoft, I don't think M$ is getting any cash.

Even if it still has a Microsoft tax, I think choosing SUSE over another distro such as Ubuntu is a better idea. I don't have anything against Ubuntu at all, but SUSE has a nice control center (YaST) and a polished desktop that would certainly appeal to new users.
