Your article on Salon is absolutely useless to the case in hand. It's not like I didn't already know the Bush family had big interest in the oil industry.

The link on BBC however at least refers to the point , but it is of no more then conspirist drivel. I like the disclaimer before the transcript. That article is nothing but people sitting around pondering if his family were linked. If there was involvement, don't you think we would have done something to Saudi Arabia?

I also remember seeing on 60 minutes about an american doctor who spent a few years over there who treated his family, said they were the nicest guys ever, very respectable and successful in their community.

This same oil trade (and America's oil addiction) continues to make make wealthy many Middle Eastern supporters of Al Qaida.

First off, the Bin Laden family are actually quite nice people and have had nothing to do with Osama. Since when did these said companies intentionally do business with known terrorists?

At the broadband company I work for, for the first time ever after 5-6 years of existence, we raised the prices on it (of course alot of the spoiled rotten customers had to call in and complain). It went from $24.95/mo to $27.50/mo.

Let's break this down here, $27.50/mo for the internet service itself, people are paying almost that for AOL. Granted, if you dont want to buy a modem it would cost $10/mo for rental, and if you didn't subscribe to our cable television, we would transport the signal for another $10/mo.

Think about, even if you were renting the modem and refused to pay for cable tv your cost is $47.50/mo before tax. That is roughly the cost of a DSL connection that is slower and has a contractual obligation.

At our company, we get alot of calls as it is where the customers think we are responsible for fixing their computers in the first place.

This is rediculous. They expect us to walk them step by step on how to find an antivirus program, install it, update it, scan the machine, and remove anything. We also frequently get calls where they expect us to walk them through an ethernet call installation.

As much as I'd like to help out, we just simply do not have the time and will not provide support for such things. Some of these people have a hard time finding the 'Start' button (I once pulled my hair out for 20 minutes trying to help someone find it once, really).

Our policy has always been to contact everyone first, and temporarily disable it later. It's a great policy and I would fist fight anyone who would disagree :)

Sometimes we send a system wide email to our customers but that does nothing but bog down our phones with people thinking we are going to spend 2 hours fixing their computer on the phone. It may be a crappy thing to do in some peoples eyes, but, if we are providing a good signal to their modem and it is online, that's all I can support (We do spend time on attempting every possible way for them to get their computer to pull an IP, but if it's jacked, theres not much we can do).

Before I say anything else however, I would like to clarify that I work for a cable internet provider, and when customers call me up asking for my opinion on which is better, I tell them my honest opinion (oh and yes I do get a small commission if they sign up, but its trivial).

dsl is a good option if you live across the street from switch, it may be faster. However it is indeed more costly and the further away you live, the slower it will be. Our company provides generally faster access at a lower rate, which IMHO has been the case for any cable provider that I know of.

If dsl is not your only option then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Quite frankly I was surprised they had started to do it in the first place. Linux is a fully capable OS, with 8 years of experience I think it's safe to say so. However, the plain truth is that most people who are going to buy a computer from a Dell or a Gateway seem more likely to not be interested in a UNIX operating system.

And no, I am not intending to troll or insult Gateway/Dell consumers, it's just that someone who is more likely to be installing a unix operating system is well versed in the art of the computer and more likely would buy their machine by the part and put it together.
