> It would be nice if the human species could mature enough to finally cast away superstition and belief and embrace empirical proof and verifiable knowledge.
It's a very well done documentary on the ID/Evolution trial up on Dover, PA. This issue has been decidedly beaten to death (verdict:ID is absolute hogwash) in a court of law.
"And that's why MacOS X and Windows win, because MacOS has Genie Effects (this is the carrot) but it also has Spotlight, and iTunes, and iPhoto, and Quicktime, and all the other stuff people want and need every day (this is the stick). Where MacOS has a soft, warm and inviting stick, brandished by a really hot chick in leather and a penchant for candle wax, Linux's stick has a poo on the end, and is brandished by a 300lb atheist liberal."
Agreed (somewhat). Japan was a economical/military monster before WW II.
MacArthur (the USA) went fairly easy on Japan after the war so that Japan could easily rebound/rebuild back into the economically strong presence they were before the war.
Hey, exercise is great. But to lower your cholesterol how about changing your diet? Cholesterol comes solely from from animal products. Drop the meat and dairy products for ~3 months and have your blood work done again.
I'd be very surprised if you didn't improve your HDL/LDL ratio by then.
Fortunately, Ubuntu and Red Hat haven't caved into the current (definitely passing) trend to hop into bed with Microsoft. And a dangerous romp that is.
The power really is with Ubuntu and Red Hat anyway as they're both the top distros in their target market (desktop and server). Keep up the great work!

I've been using Gaim/Pidgin pretty solid on Windows/Linux for ~3 years, and you didn't mention any of the problems I've had. (*me hides*)
> To sum up, the creationists are an embarrassment to both religion and Science and should get some education.
I slightly disagree. Religion is a complete embarrassment in and of itself.

We (Americans) did overwhelmingly cast it away in a court of law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dover_trial
But these ID/Creationsts are hopelessly tenacious.
Haven't we been through all this before? Yes, we have. The Dover, PA trial of 2005 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dover_trial]
Check this PBS/Nova production called "Judgment Day - Intelligent Design on Trial"

Maybe a bit off topic (I haven't watched the lecture yet either) but anyone using Pidgin with the Pidgin-encryption plugin?
I've used it for about a half a year (via Jabber's servers), and it has been a great experience.
However, I only use it w/one of my other nerd IM contacts. There's just no way I could get everyone else to get this set-up. That's the problem.
Same goes for encrypted email. Encryption just needs to be baked in from the get go.
> But it would be a lot more meaningful if we knew how many they sold out of. 10? Big whoop.
Close. 11.
> not for external USB drives that are already pre-formatted with a FAT32 filesystem. Plug it in and go! your box is pwn3d.
Uh... I run Linux. How does that work exactly?
> If it continues down familiar Sony lines, HD DVD will be the dominant one, and Blu Ray will go the way of the Beta and MD.
Actually, MD is/was successful... in Japan.
> Seeing as the readers are small and lightweight, PDF is a better choice for final documents than ODF.
Great, maybe they'll consider that. And for the other 99.9% of documents ODF is the choice.
Well stated. I've never once felt held back by all the wonderful functionality available in GIMP.

> Linux and MacOS users tend not to maximize apps
Wow... where on Earth did you pull that little nugget of wisdom from!?
I think Star Trek just needs to go into hibernation for a 2-3 decades.
Then bring it back and the entire world will go ape shit.

Whew! That's a relief!!
Er, wait a min...
> It's not like somebody changed the rules of arithmetic recently, did they?
That reminds me of one of my favorite "lightbulb screw in-eth" jokes.
How many Microsoft engineers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None. They just declare darkness the standard.

Yeah, like it could even show up on my netflixsuxhairygonads Facebook page. What's the bid deal?

Mr. Ballmer (we know it's you!), that attitude is just uncalled for.
