I'll take The New York Times over Fox "News" any time.
An extreme viewpoint like Fox's helps to legitimize the seeming moderates like the NYTimes. So if you were a puppetmaster and wanted to legitimize what the NYTimes says you would mirror their beliefs but in the extreme in another organization.
Why does Slashdot push the NYTimes? And why sell your soul to read an article. I just searched Google News and found many other links to the same story.
"Just how far will adware companies go to continue to attempt to bombard us with their ads?"
The Slashdot of pre 9/11 wouldn't have allowed a pro Windows hand wringing story like this. It would have have been repleat with solutions. Here's a solution: use Linux.
This will be marked off topic I'm sure. One might consider it ho-hum that four hurricanes striking Florida in a single season as unprecedented. Precedents are broken all the time. But what is extrordinary is that three of those hurricanes intersected (intersected!, three of them) over the towns of Ft. Meade Florida and Homeland Florida. What are the odds that symbolically our "National Security" and "Homeland" where threatened in a new era of state sponsored... Ah well, never mind. Just look at the maps:
The goal is to create a track and trace society where the government has "godlike" powers over you. BTW, OnStar *is* a GPS device. You speed can be determined. You are this close to being fined for driving too fast based on their ability to track you this way. It is tyranny.
I live in Florida and my brain turns to mush in warm weather. In the 70's I read a Reader's Digest report of a study done by typists in warm vs. cool weather. The warm weather tests produced 800% more mistakes. 77 degrees is still a bit too warm for concentration IMO. I think 74 degrees is the best temperature.
war on terror --> more terror (coming, I'm sure; makes for bigger government)
war on intellectual property theft?
HEY, the distribution model has changed. The "war" is just a pretext for corporations to act like bullies, shop around for legal favors in Congress and just generally avoid doing what every other business in the US has to do: adjust to changing markets.
The one thing that hasn't happened in any significant way is CD prices coming down to a level where people no longer have incentive to share music. Although the recent pressure from Wal-Mart sure is interesting.
There's no news on Mt. St. Helens exploding due to terrorism.
There's no news on WTC7 being the only steel frame building in the history of the world to simply collapse -- nearly at the speed of a free fall -- due to fire.
There's no news on the unprecedented three hurricane paths (Charley, Frances and Jeanne) intersecting nears the towns of Fort Meade and Homeland, Florida. In a single season.
It's just one of those years. Don't think about it too much. Nothing to see here. Keep moving on.
The Olympics and other venues are always used to rachet up the police state. People love the games and won't protest. It's the perfect time to take away more liberties under the guise of keeping us safe.
Oh thank God. Finally.
If only Keith Jarrett had tits and could dance he'd be popular too. (sigh)

True. This Slashdot is not the old Slashdot. This one has been compromised.

TV "piracy" is a logical response to too many commercials and not enough meat.

The U.S. hasn't legally declared war since 1941.

Terrorism is not stateless! Get a clue.

This is all just a media stunt.
Simon says the N. Koreans are being encouraged to cooperate with the New World Order gang.
Why is this even an Internet problem? Worried about worms spreading? Don't use Windows.

...in Afghanistan..." Don't worry. It was just an interdepartmental transfer.
One for non-enhanced humanoids and one for The Borg.
