  1. Waiting for the day... on Web Publishers Sue Gator · · Score: 2
I'm waiting for the day when it's illegal for me to use a browser that doesn't render the page the way the company intended it to be rendered.

I'm waiting for the day when I can't use a DVD because it's not the way the director intended the movie to be viewed

I'm waiting for the day when the graphic equalizer on my stereo is deemed illegal because it's modifying the music outside of what the producer intended.

I agree that Gator should be destroyed, but I don't like the precidents we're making by taking these steps.

And what about people who re-use containers? Would my three bean salad and baked beans be counted has having two Country Crock margarines?

No thanks... I prefer the old fashioned exploration of todays modern refrigerators. "Hmmm... Country Crock... Whoops... that's the three bean salad from... ugh... last fourth of July. Better call Hazmat."

The big problem is there are no ads on NPRs site. Period. (Nor should there be since they pay for the site using public and private contributions). Too bad the primary developer left the MoneyDance project a while back. AppGen is currently debating on the future of the project as we speak, and has been rather mute on what they're planning.

But I second that MoneyDance has been a good product up until this point, with the notable exception of the Java headache it imposes. I'm still looking for a decent way to take my data from MoneyDance and input it into something like GnuCash, but haven't had much luck with it.

I personally love my dual optical mouse. It's very smooth and quite forgiving of not being completely parallel with the screen. The only thing I don't like about it is the rubber on the sides, but other than that, the dual optical is the mouse to beat for me.

  17. Re:The golden shine of memory on HP/COMPAQ Publishes OS/product Roadmap · · Score: 2
he ony issue I saw with TRU/64 (OSF/1 at the time) was DEC wanted $10,000 for the license to use it, and that only bought you a bare bones 2-user license. For the same $10K, you could get yourself VMS. They didn't want to cannibalize their VMS market, so they made their UNIX line suffer in the process. I didn't have many complaints about TRU/64, and I'd safely say it was one of my more favorite commercial UNIX implementations (Sun OS being the one I cut my teeth on and my favorite of them all). HP-UX is a real pain in the ass to develop on because nothing is in a standard location, and their compiler leaves much to be desired. I've never seen a commercial repository for GNU software where you absolutely had to use it to get the software to work until I saw HP-UX.

So long TRU/64! Thanks for the memories!

I'm sure these numbers will be aggregate numbers, but honestly I think the judge should be given one of these and have his entire viewing habits made public record, including his thieving ways of fast forwarding through commercials.
