5. If an employer tells you, "if you don't hear back, you didn't get the job" after a meaningful interview, they are doing you a favor.
They're not. Takes them one minute to confirm. I don't know how long the "timeout" value is, and I might not be looking for anything else until I hear from them, because they are my first option.
6. Without automation, the cost of responding to each application is quite high. Many employers don't have this. Employees should understand this.
When you sent in a resume and didn't even receive a reply telling you that you weren't selected. If you hear nothing, we weren't interested. Must be painful to find the shoe's on the other foot now...
So just because someone was an asshole to you you get to be an asshole to a different person that just happens to have the same job as the other one?
What should Europe say? Butt in on the local problems of a country? Nothing here is happening that is against any EU laws, and I'm not sure the rest of Europe really gives too much of a damn.
This is not a local problem. Not at all. Lots of what's happening here is against what the EU is supposed to stand for, by the way.
Isn't Spain in the EU? How the hell is this allowed to happen?
I mean, Brussels has so little to do they can micromanage the length of carrots and the yellowness of bananas. Clearly they must have the big stuff like free speech guaranteed everywhere.
This is not about "speech". The Catalonian government is breaking all kind of laws, and is demanding public workers to break it, too.
the Partido Popular, is an indirect decendant of the Franco regime.
This is an extremely inaccurate statement. Partido Popular is a typical European centre-right party, on the lines of Conservative Party in the UK or CDU in Germany.
Really? So which German party was founded by a minister of Hitler and is (today) populated by children and grandchildren of those in power during Hitler days? Which German party refuses to condemn Hitler's acts?
How about using the SSN for the primary key it is and doing away with it altogether for proof of identity.
It's not. Any value that can be NULL sucks. Not everyone has a SSN number. Even fact, not everyone lives in a country where such a thing exists. Equifax is a global company. So any solution that mentions SSN is a bad start.
At some point we'll have to get used to the fact that in order to be safe we'll have to have laws that demand our physical presence somewhere for certain important things in like. Ordering a credit card is one of these things. Would it really kill us to get out of the house, go somewhere, have your identify physically validated (showing documents or hardware that then come home with us and of which no copy is made) ?
During the process we could create some jobs, too.
- Any of those things hacked: Your company, and not the affected individual, has to prove innocence if anything happens. Someone managed to open a $20,000 credit line to the name of someone affected by the Equifax fiasco? Equifax pays those $20,000.
No statue of limitation here. As long as the breached data can be used for identity theft, Equifax is responsible.
Of course they are free to lobby for a major reform so that no stolen data can be useful for more than one year or so for _anything_ related to money.
Richer people have fewer children - it holds true for every level of "rich" outside of the multimillionaire class.
There's a number of exceptions here, most notably the "religious wealthy". Do some research on opus dei for example, of which by the way an important number of members of the Spanish government are part of. They believe (unless it's not convenient to them, as often happens with those that love to impose their beliefs on everyone else) that children are a gift from god, etc...
This can be said about most taxis drivers anyway in most part of the world. Not that driving a taxi requires much training anyway, and the "training" taxi drivers have is not in doing good things...
A partial self driving car is like sorta being pregnant, the car is either self driving or not, any grey area = not.
You can actually be "sorta pregnant", such as having the fertilized egg stuck in the fallopian tubes (this will give a positive in all tests as the pregnancy hormones are produced, even if the pregnancy won't get anywhere and in fact you need to remove it immediately to prevent major issues).
Maybe things are not binary even when they seem to be.
I've tried that a few times. When it's an independent hotel it often works, but for chains... forget about it. These ones that complain about paying a 30% commission refuse to give you a 10% discount if booking directly.
So well, fuck them.
What got me from the article..was it said most people ONLY had 2-3 close personal friends?
Nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of the definition of close. I don't understand the concept of "non-personal friend" though.
I probably have 3 close friends, and by close I mean I'm going to do whatever it takes to help them out and I know they're going to do the same for me.
Then there's a few other people that are welcome to stay home if they need a place for any reason, and I would give them keys. But they are level below the former.
Learn a few things about urban planning, Elon. Don't arrogantly assume that you're the first person to want to address this problem.
Well, he seems to be trying to fix the current situation. Los Angeles is what it is. Sure, if the city could be rebuilt the traffic problem could be avoided completely.
Yes, lots of people have tried to solve the problem. But solving it on paper and actually having the resources to do something are two very different things. This guy can solve the problem technologically and can probably solve it politically (since everyone listens when he said anything).
Anyway what's your point? Since other people have tried and failed it just cannot be solved?
A little known secret: Most countries' governments arbitrarily set the price of drugs and medical devices during negotiations and force pharma and medical device manufactures to sell it at a loss (or simply not have access to that market). To make up for the R&D and marketing, they have to jack the price up in the US to make up the loss.
Yes, this sounds like something the US would be OK with:-)
The US treats drugs as commodities, subject to supply, demand, and buyer desperation. That's all. Europe does not, at least not as much as the US would like. If the US imposes a limit on prices what will happen is that companies will be forced to be more efficient, make less money, or let new players take their place in the market. All of those options are fine by me.
At least 50,000 Americans will lose their jobs this year because the president has yet to fulfill the promise he made to millions who voted for him.
You thought Trump would fulfill his "promises"?
I don't think he's going to deliver, but let's be serious, it's been less than 2 months.
Someone else was in office 8 years and didn't close Guantanamo.
But in general, I think anyone that promises "jobs" these days is just a liar or clueless.
Actually, as I'm told, several UK Governments in succession decided to bring in tons of people who don't speak English, and then failed to require that they learn the national tongue..
That makes sense, because as a Spaniard with thousands of British citizens living in my country I can assure you almost none of them have bothered to learn even basic Spanish and in fact many get upset if you can't speak to them in English.
In case you didn't know H-1B is a temporary work visa meaning they come here, make our money then leave and take it back to their own country. How does that help America?
They come here, they pay taxes like everyone else, they help their employer make money as everyone else, they pay rent as everyone else, and if they leave the country the US doesn't have to deal with the elder years.
I was making minimum wage and even if I was working full time, there's no way that I really deserved to make a living wage in that job. Again, it required very little skill
You keep talking about skill as it if was the only thing that mattered. Well, time matters, too. If you spend 1/3 of your life doing something for someone else then you should be able to make a living from it. It's just not a question of how hard it is, it's a question of how much time you spend doing it.
If it order to pay flip burgers a living wage they have to raise the price of the burgers then so be it.

Really? Pasting a standard text is costly?

To be fair backpage had a explicit section called "erotic massage". So it's not like someone posting that kind of stuff in the wrong place.
Fortunately it doesn't take years of effort to stop using their products.
Of course it does. Some of their clients are definitely not fast making decisions, implementing changes and so on.

. . . the Spanish Inquisition!
They definitely know as much about internet as Torquemada...
Gotta love how Spain is celebrating Franco's 125th BDay.
How how the rest of Europe are having fun watching the show instead of saying something...
Isn't Spain in the EU? How the hell is this allowed to happen?

...you cannot "fat shame" people,
You can. My mother does it to me all the time.
However she doesn't do it to anyone else, and no one else does it to me (to my face).
See how it works?

what if a defendant really doesn't remember the password? Throw him in jail forever?
Sure. Why not? The criteria is "reasonable doubt" not "certainty". I
You have it wrong. That's the criteria for not-guilty.
Reasonable doubt (of not being guilty) => you walk.
Anyone with an Android phone that doesn't suck and get updates every month :-)
