There's a really cool independent video store here in Memphis that doesn't charge late fees. They'll start calling you after a week or so, and eventually charge the DVD to your CC, but no late fees.

Granted, they specialize in non-mainstream flicks, but they're doing good business.

I almost never go into the store when I return a DVD, I just use the drop box on my way to work. I'd guesstimate that most of my friends use the drop box, too.

I will give them credit for the argument that it eliminates the pollution and consumption involved in returning a video rental, and while it's hard to compare different environmental costs like increased landfill vs. increased driving, personally I think tossing a DVD would be better for the world than driving 10 miles.
Hmmm. I wonder how much petroleum (sp?) it takes to make a DVD (for the plastic & for the manufacturing process). It would be interesting to see how that figure compares w/ ~1/3 gal. gas.

I do something similar, but I would have noticed if I were in the way. I basically ignore, to the point of not noticing, everyone. I have some pretty severe phobias about being around people I don't know, and that's one way I handle it. Unless they are a threat to my person, or could become a threat, they don't exist. In other situations I, uh, use an herbal self-remedy to help out.

Not necessarily true. I have a Geforce2 MX DH Pro, and it worked great w/ Win98 (as great as win98 can be). When I moved to win2k is when I started having problems w/ dialog boxes between the two monitors, etc. Win2k is more consistent w/ Linux, though, so I get used to the same irritations...

I have a acquaintance who's one of the coolest guys I know. First, he owns a metal shop, where he cuts & welds and creates custom furniture, art, etc.

Next, he always has 1 or 2 dogs with him. They're the sweetest, nicest dogs I've ever met. He rescues them all. He's been known to walk into the back yards of drug dealers to get them.

Every single one is a pit bull. These "vicious dogs" have all come from extremely abusive backgrounds, yet all of them are nice and sweet.

I guess I have no point, I just think he deserves a little recognition. And people who are abusive to animals are fuckheads who need their asses kicked.
