Of course it's peaked.. they've learned they can saturate TV and Radio, and other media, with a slew of ads for their products... They can't very well push thier stuff MORE then they are, so they've reached the top.
Maybe if they took some of that Prime Time ad-slot money and put it back into making a decent game, they'd get a better return?.. ok.. probably not..
Honestly, find a few labels that carry the stuff you know you like, and sign up for their newsletter or just check the release schedule on occasion. The other alternative, as someone mentioned, was to find a group of similar minded individuals and join their forum (Google can help you with that). Aside from that, you can try the usual streaming suspects (last.fm and Pandora, etc..) but you might also try some off the wall streamers like Soma.fm, etc.
Is MySpace still an e-venue for bands trying to do promotion? Does Wikipedia have articles for bands you like?
Also, if you can describe what types/aspects of 'classic' you like, especially for the historical stuff, that will help you tons. For example I perfer Harpsichords over Pianos, and especially accompanied by strings... alittle hunting brings up a few hits that that gets you started.
Once you FIND what you're looking for, I'm sure you still have some sorta media store like a BestBuy that you can put in special orders from, or just buy their stuff on Amazon, etc
I hope by 'open access point' you didn't mean WiFi.. you'd prob run out of food and water before everyone could finish swapping Bluray rips at a good size LAN party using WiFi.. especially on the ocean..
Honestly, any ISP with their act together will not just hand out that information.. you could be faking it and actually a stalker or something.. and I don't want that sorta problem.
In short, you should get a Subpeona. The OP can just try the 'ask nicely' first idea, but if you called me up saying 'I have an IP address and a time stamp, can you tell me who this is?', The answer is gonna be 'No' and if you press I'm gonna end up hanging up on you or forwarding your call to my manager so he can hang up on you.
And I'm surprised that your Uni doesn't have at least one person that deals with computer-crimes.. given that most schools now require the students to have some sort of personal computing device of merit, alot more are getting stolen these days.
Furthermore, it's very likely that the person that is using your laptop isn't the person that actually stole it.. so the OP should keep that in mind if he/she plans on getting 'dirty' with the 'thief'. The thief probably saw a crime of opportunity, acted on it, and turned around and pawned the laptop to someone else. Finding the current user might still enable the police to find the thief though, so it's still worth pursuing (or jolting your PD into pursuing).
Actually he is alittle.. given the input is via the network.
But looking at it.. the '150ms' was both the time it took for the input to go from the controller to the home box, be encoded, network out to the OnLive server, handle the input, render the scene, network the scene back to the users home, decode, and display on screen.
So assuming everything else takes 0ms, that'd be around 75ms of 'input lag'.. obviously this is greatly flawed and overly simplicist.. but during that 75ms: Your scene is still being updated, and you can continue to provide input (that is.. track your target). 75ms should be -well- within the tolerances of ANY online game..
As with dtml above, I used to play UT99 with mid-200 pings and it played pretty darned smooth still, with only a rare issue with 'shooting someone that wasn't there' issues.
Ya that actual statement in the article doesn't make sense at face value, but this AC brings up a semi-valid point that if the the OnLive user is banging into an ISP's over-sub limits, then the end user will perceive higher-latency as TCP does the whole 're transmit thing' or UDP packets get dropped at a rate-limiter.. or in the best case, the packets funnel through a QoS Queue or something.
I guess it's time Onlive hops subscribes to more use of NDT services (like the Google approved Measurement Lab)
It could be exploited more to essentially provide (at best) 'free' health care coverage to a same-sex individual.. assuming you're not already married, and you meet the requirements the employer puts forth for domestic partner benefits; which at my place of work requires things like 1yr+ of a joint bank account, and other tihngs you wouldn't normally extend to someone you don't trust.
Based on how Google appears to be doing it, they are just covering the difference in the taxation of the benefits received (apparently in domestic-beneficiary programs, your benefits are considered taxable income)
I concurr. I have one of those Trackball Marbles from Logitech.. the one with the 1.5in sphere of hard plastic.. not only does it hit hard, but it looks neat doing it!
If you're gonna create a system, you need make plan for maintenance of said system (and fund it).. in this case it's enough eyeballs to watch alerts.. but also a policy of how to deal with false alerts (and rectify the system to try and minimize false positives.. which probably will vary by individual parolee).
This is why KISS works.. tbh.. why don't we just outsource monitoring these alerts to some nation that might take this job seriously.. (like.. India?)
"Don't stress if he's not writing FPS games at 12. " Actually you should Stress if he's writing FPSes at 12.. because there are other, better, genres of games.
Bill Gates and Woz? "Skinny nerdy old guy with glasses" or "fat nerdy guy that can't dance"? or how about: "Windows" or "The Phone Phreak that did stuff you can't do anymore"? (neither of which are fun or cool any longer)
Remember that games are mainstream now.. pointing at the same old nerdy 'role models' probably won't work. Perhaps you can get one of those Korean Pro Gamers to be his role model? Is there a WWF^HC wrestler or something that is a hacker?
I can honestly say the most original game I've played YTD is Tropico 3 and that's only because it's the first game I've played with a Latin jazz soundtrack.
YTD maybe, but do keep in mind that Tropico 3 is pretty much a straight up modernization to a 3D engine of the original Tropico (which also had a very nice latin soundtrack!)
Tropico 2 was a PoS though.. it has a neat Pirate game mechanic, but the whole 'steer your island how you like' aspect was gone for the most part, so your islands usually ended up pretty much the same.
Also if there's something 'close enough' to the idea, I'd recommend becoming a modder. It's like Indie but unpaided (and without certain burdens).
Usually if you make a good mod project, it'll get recognized, and it can usually get filed onto a CV or perhaps lead to bigger things.
Be sure if you get into the game modding scene, to read the legal on any SDK published by the game maker and ask questions if there's something in there that doesn't look right.
Worst case.. I recommend picking up something like UDK and just prototyping on that.
I've been using The GIMP (for win64.. yes I Know.. hate me..) for years (for light weight 3d game work, and the occasion actual photo-printing job)... Unfortunately I've never heard of this plugin until today.. It would have simiplied many a texture touchup I've had to do.. so it makes me sad:/
Oh well.. now I know, and that's like 1/48th of the Battle or something.
Because most of the westernized world (their target market) has it as a day off.
Probably as simple as that..
oh and some marketing goon probably thinks he's being clever.. considering (afaik) none of their titles deal with WW1, it's nothing more then a gimmick.

No, more like 'Bioware doesn't aim to make a blockbuster game.. we've just been remaking KOTOR ever since we discovered it was a smash hit!'

If you're getting a reserved seat for a Metallica concert.. then someone is doing something wrong.
that should read ~25.4micrometers.. the stupid Mu symbol didn't show up in that post..
+/- 2mm? Luxury!
Lemme know when you're doing machine work and need 1/1000ths of an inch (~25.4 m for the fraction/imperial impaired)

All I said was this piece of Halibut was good enough for Jehovah!

Weren't the TMNT caused by an accident (radioactive spill from a truck) anyway?
Unless this law also prohibits the transportation of mutantigenic compounds, then it wouldn't outlaw a legally produced TMNT.
I was under the impression that the spill was due to an illegal cargo anyway, so realistically, a law wouldn't do much anyway.

Just give up and buy him a skateboard.
He probably meant "The West" as in "Locales of Westernized Culture", of which Oz is included.
Bwahahah.. .Because we know how well online protest-group work...
Remember kids,, 'chef' in Swedish means 'Manager'..
(or so Google tells me)
