    This is all utterly ridiculous anyway. I've seen too many people unwilling to do LEGAL forms of work, when even a day labor job or a McDonald's job would bring in more money than they have now. Simply put, they would rather be broke than put in a days work.

    I thought it was just a metaphor. Like, leave your scientist card by the door on the way out.

    No, there's a card for just about everything these days. For example, I'm a card-carrying sysadmin, but I'm also a card-carrying Slashdot geek. I am also a card-carrying American, a card-carrying driver of cars, and a card-carrying member of the Subway Sub Club.

    Really, if you don't have a card for everything you do and everything you are, how can we really trust that you are what you say you are? Are you a card-carrying Anonymous Coward? Or a dirty fraud? We can't tell!

    My wallet is overflowing with cards proving everything about every aspect of my life (I'm also a card-carrying wallet overstuffer!). Really, I don't know how you can get along in life without the appropriate cards.

    But does your closet overfloweth with t-shirts?

    Eggs and sperm can be frozen and revived. AI works.

    Who exactly is going to revive the eggs&sperm? Even if the AI does it, you can't exactly just fertilize a bunch of eggs and hope for the best.

    Where I live hungry people go to soup kitchens and food pantries. We do treat the homeless better than most places here, but in my experience, the people stealing are doing it for one reason.... CRACK. Oh wait, second reason... HEROIN. And yeah, I've been homeless, and I've never held anyone up at gunpoint. Hell if I had a gun I woulda hocked it or kept it for protection at night.

    I think it's perfectly clear that this is an alien spacecraft. They are purposely releasing toxic fumes, for what purpose I'm not sure. Possibly more will arrive in an attempt to enslave us. You just wait until they tell us the meteor has opened up and something strange is coming out. Oh wait, they won't tell us that will they? Well, I'm going to go amass guns and provisions in the basement and cover the house in pretty shiny tin foil. I suggest you do the same!

    Taking away the video card is too much work every day when you can simply take away power cables. Sure they can get new ones, but they'll get caught. How do I know this? Thats how MY mom kept me away from the computer, getting new cables was how I bypassed it, but after they took away ENOUGH power cables I gave up. Oh and phone cords too, this was in BBS/dial-up days. *gasp* I don't think I'd do it to my own kids unless it became truly necessary, but it *does* work.

    I don't have an ipod either. I also do not own a television. Is it unfair that I cannot watch most television shows because I choose not to buy a TV? Or are you saying this because you own some other video capable mp3 player that just isn't an ipod?

After all, can we really have a dating guide based on how to date a mythical creature? And being a girl who likes sci-fi I guess I just said I don't exist. Whatever.

    Remember this relatively recent slashdot article? I couldn't find the article quick enough but I did find the article it was about. http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/1832/ Yup, that would be the fabulous electric car that is so LIGHTWEIGHT that it's not classified as a car anymore.

    And no, I didn't catch the answer to your question, I just love watching that car crumple in such amazing ways.

    I see it now! We just keep finding new minerals until we have say... 5 different types of radiating absorbing minerals. THEN we use them in an endless loop sucking the radiation from each other and never really getting rid of it. Nah, the moon is going to become our radioactive mineral dump. We could make a lot of money off of this if we're careful.

    Not a problem! All we have to do is cut it into smaller pieces, throw in the lemon juice and the dipping sauce, and toss into the Blendtec blender! I'm sure it will blend, and thus we can have lemon calamari ammonia smoothies... mmmmmm good.

    I have to agree with you. I remember when a friend of my dad wanted to start a project to get computers into the classrooms of some south african (i think) village. After much discussion, we all decided that it was not the most pressing issue in the village, and that they could be better helped in other ways, as you said.. food, clothing, medicine, shelter, REGULAR school supplies.. etc. you get the idea.
