    The service is still running on their servers. You having the source code does not give you the magic ability to change their service on their servers.

    If you don't want to be dependant on them, run your own server and write your own modifications.

    Well, will this change to the GPL affect that at all? I say no. Yes you can download the source to their webapp, but you don't have their data. The data is the reason people use X companies webapp. You can change your copy of their source all day long and it will cause exactly no changes to company X's running webapp.

    If the user wants to use company X's webapp, the use it. Don't expect to have any control over it. If you want control, run your own damn webapp.

    OK, fine. What law specifically would you charge him with?

    "Mugging" in the game is perfectly allowed, it is a part of the game.

    The only thing he did "wrong" was use a bot. This isn't illegal, merely a voilation of the ToS. That should result in him being banned by the people running the servers. He did nothing criminal.

    I agree, he was "dishonorable", but again, show me a law against it. As for extortianate, I don't see how either definition of the word fits here. It wasn't extortion or exorbinate.

    So, what crime did he commit?

    I haven't seen a copy of "Working at McDonalds for minimum wage" or "Living in moms basement" at the game store for you.

    So, does that work with the GPL?

    I send an email to "big GPL'd" project saying that my EVLA lets me use any code as if it was my own and if they don't agree it's their responsibility to ensure there is no way possible for me to get the software?
