This is NOT okay with me. The most common phone scams out there now are calls 'on behalf of' some charity, which may or may not really exist. If it is a legit charity, their name is being used fraudulently. I refuse to buy ANYTHING from anyone who cold calls me, or sends me spam. I also will not buy anything from a pop-up/under ad on the web. I'm not really bothered by snail junkmail, because I didn't have to pay for it, and in fact, bulk commercial mail subsidizes 1st class mail rates. All I have to do is put it in the trash, which I'm paying for anyway.

You assume the George Lucas was somehow seduced to the dark side. I would contend that achieving enormous financial success and power through mass-marketing was his intention all along.

George Lucas introduced the world to the power of mass- cross- marketing of film properties. Others had done it, but no one was as successful as he was, with the original Starwars. The marketing hype ramped up with each successive movie, and correspondingly, the substance of the movies slid downward. The development of characters, plots, and concepts had taken a back seat to the needs of marketing by the time Return of the Jedi arrived.

No one got to George Lucas. He intended to go where he has, from the beginning.

That was excellently rendered. And combining Arwen with Glorfindal does NOTHING to wreck the story. (RANT ON)I have really had it with the nit-pickers. 'Oh, the left out Tom Bombadil', 'Oh, Arwen shows up for more than 2 sentences.' For God's Sake, did you want a 10 hour movie? Why don't you just listen to the Books on Tape? I really appreciate what Peter Jackson has done. It is clear that he LOVES the books, and has done a masterful job in CREATING the story for the screen. Just look back at the Rankin-Bass version of the Hobbit and Return of the King for examples of how NOT to do it. (Oh, also Ralph Bakshe's(sp), POS). I knew what was going to happen, and I still wept when Boromir died. I cheered when when Aragorn said, 'Let's hunt some Orc.'

That is what made this one of the best movies I have seen, and perhaps the best adaptation of the LOTR possible.
