This article http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/04/what-has-google-done-in-search-lately.html disagrees with you. It may be from last year, but I've seen other search related features show up on that blog.

In fact, that blog is on my list and it seems like they are always coming up with extras to add into their search. Little extra things you can click on when the search results in a stock symbol or dated item.

Also, have you taken a look at Google labs experimental search?

I'm not saying some competition would be good, but it isn't as stagnant as I think you would make it out to be. This link http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/03/faster-google-search-on-your-mobile.html shows another more recent search improvement they've done recently

Ummm, because like others have said, the war is not over. Blu-ray discs still have to compete with digital distribution. Even Gates mentioned at CES. They've partnered with quite a few places (One is Disney!) so they will likely pursue downloads through their Live marketplace, including HD content before trying to license something from a competing console.

Now, I have regular job, and my time is just worth too much to me to look for the cracks, download them, test them, figure out how to fix the one problem the crack introduced, and then play. (Considerably more effort if you are talking about hacking a console to play these cracked games...)

Now it is worth it for me to just spend the $20-50 and just play. Unfortunately that means I spent money on Mass Effect...

You should read the Megan Meier events. Her mom (according to her account) did monitor what was going on at first. The problem was that a couple of other adults kept up a ruse for a while ( can't remember exactly how long). The events on the day of the harassment pretty much occurred in a very short period of time when monitoring wasn't going on (she wasn't supposed to be on). I agree with some of the other posters, though, education about dealing with issues and maybe even some education about empathy towards others would be the best solution. As despicable a thing that those adults (who instigated the harassment) did, I don't know that tramping over free speech rights is the answer. Aren't there normal harassment rules that can be extended in some way to capture some of these?

  15. Twisted summary on Will the Web Replace TV? · · Score: 1

I don't get it. The summary and most of the comments are pretty much describing an alternative to getting your programming through something other then the cable or satellite (FIOS if you are lucky) such as getting it through Joost, torrent and streaming to the set top box. But the writers strike hurts the networks that are creating those shows most people are getting on the web.

It seems to me that with the writers strike, people would find independently made shows that are probably free (or free with some non-intrusive ad support). I know a few people that like to watch machinima videos made from places like WOW and SL (used to love RvB). That's what I would think people would turn to with the writers strike. Those shows cost so much to make anymore that your going to have to pay to watch shows that will still have ads in them, and I'm sure that'll turn a lot more people off.
