Why would they shut it down when they've gotten 80% of Americans to approve [cbsnews.com] of the invasion of our privacy?
Apparently, Americans deserve neither liberty nor safety
The average American is easily brainwashed into believing what the media or politicians with personal agenda's want them to believe. As a friend and co-worker of mine says (on occasion), "Common sense isn't too common any more."
'From Descartes on up, in the Western mindset, fish and other nonhuman animals don't have feelings, they don't have emotions, we can do whatever we want to them,' says Philip Gerrie, coauthor of the proposal. 'If we considered them living beings, we would deal with them differently.'
Talk about a dude with a serious superiority complex. Last I checked, something that breathes, eats and poops is living. I can understand putting a ban on the sale of sub-intelligent beings (fish, lizards, etc), but when it comes to cats, dogs and the like, anyone who has owned a pet at some point knows that animals deserve a basic set of rights and that they do in fact experience the same perception of neuro-processes that we call "emotions".
This guy obviously doesn't have any emotion himself. That or his parents never let him have a pet.
Yeah, that's what I get for not taking advantage of the "Preview" button and proofing my post before hitting Submit. I meant to say "Christ", which I'm sure you were fully aware of.;)
... He isn't Christ. If he was, he wouldn't be so concerned with "patenting his powers". If he were Chris, he would be determined to share them with the world, not show that he's an idiot and try to make money off of something that obviously isn't true.
Agreed. These are intro courses for a Management Information Systems (MIS) Major. At the risk of sounding rude, has your mother tired Google? I'm sure there are PLENTY of home schooling resources available that would have the curriculum needed to prepare your siblings.
It's simple... don't click on links that have a different URL than what's displayed, if you don't know if the URL is good, don't click on it, don't install any software you are unfamiliar with and/or asks for your password, if you are completely unsure of any of these things then ask a nerd. I don't understand what's so difficult and why people are trying to use Apple as a scapegoat for their own stupidity. A lot of these steps can be followed on a Windows computer too, but unfortunately with Windows that isn't enough (i.e. you still need virus protection software and malware protection software).
Seriously... a pat down of a baby? TSA has gone too far if they are going to give infants (children are probably next) pat downs that can't even speak for themselves. Someone has to put a stop to the overzealous security czar that's known as TSA. If that had been my child, I would have been extremely outraged.
Over time, wouldn't mixing fresh water with salt water throw off the balance and eventually kill marine life? I'm not a marine biologist, but this sounds like a bad and an idea that's not been well thought out.
I think it would be quite amazing to see the Assassin's Creed games turned into a movie series. The game is already in and of itself movie quality and pulls you in. If they can do this with games, just think of the possibilities of porting the game to a movie. Not to mention the Las Vegas 2... that would make a great movie, too!
It seems that everyone is collecting GPS information. What next? We'll find out that Windows machines are actually phoning home and Androids are plotting the death of humans?
And it's available on Windows. I see a solution right here... Clam on mail servers, Linux Workstations, Mac Workstations, Windows Workstations... but no. What it really boils down to is politics. I don't care what anyone has to say about policies or security... Clam is simple and effective. It's not bloated like other anti-virus applications. It just works.
I don't know why they are complaining... all they need to do to satisfy the bigwigs is to install ClamAV on Mac and GNU/Linux. It's free, reliable and works; unlike other third party anti-virus applications out there (namely, Windows apps).
Who says that making friends and having a good time at work is not professional? I work as a Linux Server Admin at an ISP and I have to say, being able to joke around and consider every one a friend is not only beneficial to team work and the company, but quite rewarding as a human being.
I subscribe to Comcast because they offer the best broadband service in my area. I use Netflix because it's better than Comcast's on-demand service. I wonder how many Netflix subscribers rely on a Netflix competitor.
So, if I want (or need) to save a few dollars and decide to purchase said game at GameStop, I will have to pay more to "unlock" the game? What a pile of horse shit! I don't see Nvidia disabling 3D Rendering and only enabling video output just because I bought a used graphics card from my buddy because he bought a new one.
Yes, you should give IT a login and make him a member of the wheel group so that you don't have to give out your root password. However, I'm surprised that the IT department hasn't thrown off some alarms regarding a rouge server on their network. If I were in your position, I would work with IT and allow them to secure your system and bring it up to their SOP's and R&R's regarding equipment on their network. You really should have consulted with the IT department before spending your own money and time when they could have just as easily taken care of this for you.
However, what's done is done. Of course, this falls under what a mentor of mine used to tell me: It's better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

TSA is a czar and needs to be shut down!
I gotta get me one of those.

This will be interesting to watch as events unfold.
That won't happen until the apocalypse ... I hear there's another one planned for October.

Definitely want one! I am curious about how the device is powered ... maybe it leeches power off the monitor?

Hasn't anyone learned anything from the great firewall of China?
i like being tracked where ever i go with no privacy.
I believe everything Steve Jobs says. ;)

Sounds like "Internet Communism" to me.
Not to mention just another way your identity can be stolen.

Way to screw the little guy, Sony!
