This is why there should be a firmware management ROM in any computer with flashable bios and/or comparable devices.
There should never be away to screw up a device's hardware through bad software.
My suggestion would be for any device that requires firmware to put in a failsafe ROM that can manage the device's firmware even if the rest of the machine is borked.
Not to mention that it robs people of part of the incentive to drive gas efficient cars.
If you tax the miles instead of the gallons, the gas guzzlers get a break and the economy cars take a hit by getting charged for more miles for the same gallon of gas.
The ISP, as a private company, has quite a bit fewer rules to obey than the government. They can cut you off whenever they damn well please, RIAA or not.
Your only recourse would be to take the ISP to court for breach of contract, if that. The RIAA's hands would be clean.
The RIAA, as fucked up as it is, has a legitimate mission.
Now, before I get modded down as flamebait, I would like to reiterate that copyright infringement is, after all, a federal offense for a reason. Our founding fathers put the clause in the constitution to promote works.
Yes, I will admit that our current copyright system is completely FUBAR. Yes I will admit that the RIAA is out of control.
However, there is still the fact that people break the law when they illicitly distribute material.
I would love to see copyright restored to proper sanity, and I would also love to see the RIAA play fair.
If the RIAA played by the rules and fought honorably, I would have full support for it.
My point wasn't that stupidity shouldn't be excused, but rather, that it shouldn't be a legal defense for the ones who launched the attack in the first place.

Then HP would be guilty of usurping the fed's war powers rather than violating national security.

I smell the presence of big oil in this shift.
What about ye old fashioned odometer?
It's pretty much already a crime in most places to tamper with them.
If so, then the patent should easily be challenged.
Don't forget about

I don't count a loss as harmful if you gain something in return.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a profit per se.
I would be happy if the RIAA's backers profited *honestly*
It's when profit is gained through harm of others that it becomes wrong.
Have a government backed officer with a gun...
If he says it's illegal, it is.
In soviet russia, ass sucks you!
Doesn't KDE use this right now?
There could be grounds to sue for libel if the RIAA recklessly makes a false accusation.
Probably not.

Indeed.
I think it's called a botnet.
Well with american corporate greed being what it is I'm not surprised.
Indeed.
Of the people who are in china that hate censorship, how many were actually interviewed.
Of the people who were interviewed, how many wanted to say "against censorship" but were afraid to do so?
The low signal level increases vulnerability to noise.
Plus if you get too low you're practically dividing by zero on the amp stage.
...is contempt of court a criminal offense?
I'm sure a desktop would be the ideal usage environment, depending on the size of the desk.
I just tested opera and it fails.
However, it still managed to score a whopping 85/100
IE only got 12/100
I agree with you.

But, as we all know...that's a might big if.
Someone tell me how the fuck the FCC got jurisdiction over the internet in the first place?
If anything, wouldn't it be DoD or the FTC?
It's interstate commerce.
I agree completely.
