I agree completely. This is not going to help at ALL. Blocking legitimate emergency calls will most likely call a LOT of problems.
I seriously doubt this will prevent any terrorist attacks. There are so many other ways to detonate the thing remotely, along with timers and old-fashioned suicide bombing.
I would hope that eventually the cell industry will become saturated with companies someday to the point of "No hidden fees!" advertising.
I forget the name of it, but there is a telephone company that's advertising in the Chicagoland area that is doing just that. Don't think they're doing cell phone service yet, but that's how they're trying to lure customers in for regular service.
It would be very difficult to control things that are so easily handmade. Just pick up a few components from Radio Shack and you've got a simple stun gun. Even if they SOMEHOW restrict access to the individual components, you can cannibalize just about anything for them (like a digital camera, as this article points out).
Allright, now I realize you all like to bash MS as much as possible, but from the article: Mr Crew has billed Microsoft just over $3,000 an hour for his own work, as well as more than $2,000 an hour for other lawyers on his team.
Jesus! I'd object to having to pay that as well.
Wouldn't it be nice if all that money went towards, you know, the users that were "harmed" instead of to the lawyers?
In an address on national television Mr Vajpayee said he accepted the verdict and said it was a demonstration of India's strong democractic roots. "My party and alliance may have lost but India has won," he said.
This is amazing. Why can't our politicians act like this when they lose? Maybe I'll move to India. It's probably easier to get a job there anyway.
Well, our organized crime is already outsourced to Italy...

Exactly, and how does this have ANYTHING to do with flash mobs? They were already established groups (gangs). The same thing could have happened because of a shouting match in the streets, a conference call, or any other form of group communication. Just because the cause of the fight happened to be on the internet doesn't make it special.
$150 for the base XBox, but keep in mind you have to buy a modchip as well, and if you're not the type to open up your XBox and install one, you need to pay someone to do that as well.
Still an incredible deal, and as a bonus you can play some great games on it as well.
It does make you nostalgic thinking about things like that. I have more storage on a tiny card in my digital camera right now than every computer in the computer lab at my Jr. High had combined. My cell phone is more powerful than my first desktop computer. I can download in 5 minutes what would have taken me a month to download back then. Ah, technology.
Same situation with Photoshop. GIMP, although powerful, is downright painful to use - especially for beginners. If Linux could run Office and Photoshop, it would probably be a lot easier to migrate end-users from Windows to Linux.
Damn! I was hoping for downloads.
Damn, last time I heard, EverQuest had around 420,000 active players. Could FFXI really be more popular than EQ now? Amazing.

That would be the best practical joke ever.
Nah, it wouldn't have that effect. Ever laid on a bed of nails? Since there are so many, it supports you without much discomfort.
I'm sure they're too small to pierece the skin, anyway. The most they'd probably do is get suck on you and itch like crazy.
It makes sense. I still see people toting Game Boy Colors around, and how old are those?

Now all we need are a pusher and shover bot and we'll be set!
Maybe, but that one doesn't have any fun Soviet Russia jokes to amuse us with.

Yes, we saw how badly those movies did at the box office, didn't we?
I hear SCO can license the Book of Webmin for the low, low price of $699 per document they want to use it in...

Being smarter and acting smarter are two different things, however. Maybe humanity HAS been getting smarter, but everyone still acts like an idiot.
Well, people always say they want Microsoft to go open-source... Someone just intepreted it the wrong way.
Actually, that's incorrect. This is a perfect example of a Trojan Horse (a malicious program disguised as a legitimate program).
What you seem to be describing is spyware.

Hold the phone... you actually BOUGHT an N-Gage? What were you thinking?
