    I am wondering how we will pay for everything we want in space - a shuttle replacement, the ISS is an albatross ( a money pit), we wanna go to the moon, we wanna go to mars.

    Things just havent been the same since the apollo missions. Just imagine what we could have done if we had persued our space dream instead of killing it...

    interviewed 2 for a job posting). Go into medical
    profession - baby boomers are around the corner.

    life trying to be the next A. Adams. Just use large format gear. Landscape only. Backback all that gear into places....maybe take a break and fly fish.

    Oh, I'd also burn my PCs and never think about computers ever again.

    Then, I could die in peace.

    My son has CCDP/CCNP and outta work for 2 years. His friends are getting out of college and most are going for advanced degrees ( no jobs).

    Before dotcom-bust, you could get by with no college and certs. But now, with jobs few and far between, a collge degree is minimum ( see above).

    Forget high tech, become a lawyer.

    Me? We have hired 1 person in a year and our work load has tripled. And that person has years of network experience.

    the day SCO closes their doors. It is amazing how much effort is being spent to put up with these cretins. I agree with others that their new business model is litigation.

    If I was an SCO employee, I would edit my resume and remove the time I worked that, replace it with "spent some time to deal with personal issues".

    I wonder if employees at SCO read /.? I wonder what they think about whats been happening? Are they embarrassed? Happy? Or just brain dead? I know jobs are tough to get but at some point you gotta realize that some jobs are just plain BAD for you. Working at SCO is not going to be a good career move.

    If you want career advice, become a lawyer. Hey, as we are seeing, there is, and will be, a big demand for this skill set. We all may hate their guts, but the legal field is not in the doldrums like the tech industry.

    In fact, I feel like sueing someone. Yeah, got the urge to get a lawyer and make someone elses life miserable. Get me a good shyster and go after someone or business. Maybe settle outta court for $$$.

    New business model:

    1. Hire lawyer
    2. Sue the be-jezuz outta some smuck - settle
    out of court
    3. Profit!

    If I had known that this country was going in this direction, I would got my law degree and skipped math.

    Hey, a career note to all you high-school folk, get your law degree.

    What scares me is if this is only the tip of the iceburg for the future. It seems that any and everyone now just sues to get their way. Heck, you dont even have to have a good case. If you dont get your way or you are just mad at soneone/thing, just sue to get even. Soon web sites will have a lawsuit counter replacing their hit counter.

    Im so mad now, I think I need a lawyer - I just wanna sue someone. GGRRRRRRRrrrr!

    when we are going to spend 80-100 billion in
    Iraq. Add to that anyother country that we
    go for. Also, we do not have the same fear that
    we had in the 60s over Russian space victories.
    We were truely scared and it drove us to want to
    not only be in space, but be there first.

    Lets face it, we do not have the same drive for
    another space race. We are too mired in worrying
    about terrorism, rebuilding bombed-out countries,
    creating a working missle-defense system, stupid shuttle missions that are pointless, building more nuclear carriers, and erections and hair loss.

    The 60s space race had this country working for a common goal ( while the Vietnam war was tearing us apart). I dont see us working for a common goal anymore.

    If I had 5 years cash I'd be gone in an instant.
    Ive worked in computers since 1969 and have only
    a heart attack to show for it. I can never retire and will probably die at my desk.

    Dont do this to yourself. Take off for a long time, learn photography, go to culinary college, volunteer as a computer mentor at a local school, etc.

    I'd give anything to have trained as a plumber growing up. But no, I had to be the geek and go into computer shit.

    I still have a 486slc Mitac notebook running
    mini-linux. No CDROM, 80meg HD. Minilinux
    was a 4diskette linux. It keeps running - I
    dont have the heart to get rid of it.

    Agree 100 percent. DOOM was the first, and in
    some ways the best. All you have to do is move
    right/left, forward/back, and weapons. Not much
    to learn and lotsa fun ( gimma a shotgun and
    full ammo....grooovvyy).

    I used to enjoy arcades but the games there
    went to having 4-5 buttons and movement controls.
    You need 4 arms to play!

    That is what happened to us - someone brought
    their notebook from home ( with infection) and
    then plugged into IT network. Practice safe
    computing!!!

    In this kind of scenario, firewalls dont help.
    Cant block port 135 at routers 'cause we have apps at that port.

    Needless to say, our IT network is still reeling from this.

    We got this crap at work. Firewalls didnt help
    because someone in the office took his notebook
    home, got infected and then brought notebook
    into work. Silent infection. You can build
    multiple firewalls but it is worth nothing if
    your users dont protect their networks at home.

    Yeah, well, I'm going to sue myself for using linux, Mac OS X, and AIX! Its obvious that I am violating every patent law out there.
