Your point is the topic of the excellent The End of Faith, a worthy read on the subject of fundamentalists vs. moderates in 'People of the Book' religions.
Folks, one hell of a lot of people like playing poker and gambling on the internet. Unfortunately, the rake from those games is ALL going offshore. Take note that this bill made it through the house but is not going to be matched in the senate.
This is just a warm-up. Legalizing online gambling so the feds and US corps can get their cut is the real goal. Ask yourself: why aren't the major US gaming corporations being extremely vocal on this issue?
Once again, The Right brings up an issue to legislate on moral grounds (gaining votes) only to collect behind the scenes (gaining $$$) when they later fulfill the interests of the corporations.
a) It doesn't matter too much which you start out with. What will matter down the road is which you get documentated experience with. Projects and jobs on your resume will count towards your "X years experience with _____ technology" qualification for jobs.
b) Your choice of which tech to specialize in may have an impact on where you live down the road. For example,.net will get you in a lot of doors in Las Vegas, but your enterprise Java experience will be nearly useless.

Ahh, and it was such a step up from the C64 basic that I cut my teeth on.
I PEEK you! I POKE you! Move sprite, move!
But the programming manual was the best. Great form factor, huge spiral so it would lay open. And unlike every LOC for C64 ever, it was NOT IN ALL CAPS.
I almost always get a single hiccup after around 3 gulps of bubbly beverage. Soft drinks, beer, or anything will bubbles will cause me to hiccup exactly once, or twice if I gulp several times without breathing. It does not cause a fit of hiccups to follow. Water, juice, milk, and anything else without bubbles does not cause this reaction. I have never seen this behavior in any other person. Does anybody have an explanation or other examples of this?
I want a relational database at the core of the system. I love the mini-apps of both CE and Palm, but I love the potential of integrating them even more. Third-party applications would rise to a whole new level. Ever noticed that add-on software only talks to the builtin apps? SQL as the default data storage mechanism would bring real power and reusability of other third-party apps to handhelds, and just imagine the sync capability of enterprise applications.
Go to college. Go to a big public university and have 4 years of fun and challenges with lots of other people your age. It really is worth it. There is _plenty_ of time to work later. You can probably work some while you are there.
Since you want to be a sysadmin, do your undergrad in EE. Pick up a couple of CS classes along the way. You will have a much greater understanding of all the devices you are planning to administer.
I wouldn't waste my money on books. The developer tools you can download for free from apple are fantastic, and come with ample tutorials, examples, and documentation to get going. I got ahold of a mac to get back into client-side coding after a few years in web apps and was up and running in only a couple of weeks.
Have fun, you'll love it. =) Also, you don't have to bother with objc if you don't like. I've been cranking along using the java bindings just fine. I love the java option, as it lets me utilize lots of java code of my own and some harvested from the net.
I agree completely, we need to continue to live our American lives. Go to work, focus as best you can on our professions. I understand MLB cancelling their games today, but barring security threats in the coming days college and pro football should continue. Yes, hang the flags at half mast, say a prayer or give a moment of silence before the games, but continue in our public American traditions, as trite as they may be. Also, I believe it was a mistake to cancel the Emmys on this coming Sunday night. All this barring credible direct threats, of course.
We should do everything we can to show that terrorist attacks will have the smallest impact possible, even on our most simple activities.
Or try the graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, and the followup "Persepolis II." Both are excellent.
Very well said.

Google returns effectively 1 hit for this term. Can anyone elaborate? What exactly would constitute an abusive layoff?
