  1. I have never met anyone satisfied with their pay... let alone 2 out of 5!

  2. Despite Obama's Assurances on Ask Slashdot: Why Did You Quit Your Last Job? · · Score: 1

I was replaced by three offshore programmers from India.

  3. When I lived in Arizona, Senator Udall wrote a bill that intended to make it illegal to publish a representative's voting record. Government "of the people, by the people, and for the people" should be otherwise hidden from the people. Oy.

  4. Oh no! on 118 All-Time Heat Records Set Around the Globe (miamiherald.com) · · Score: 1

Run away! Run away! Give the democrats more money, their hot air is changing the climate of the whole planet!

  5. Hopefully it could lower my rates, too. I have a gadget in my car that has resulted in my auto insurance lowering of my rates.

  6. Which thing is not the fault in the environment, but at fault with the characteristics of submarine fiber optics when they were selected for this application. Of course, if you have optical fiber that can tolerate the environment miles under the ocean, even an increase of hundreds of feet is not going to be a factor. Having experience in fiber optics manufacturing, I would call this "fake news."

  7. If you are thinking about alternative energy sources, it is a good idea to be sure to include long term plans. Getting your money back isn't a bad thing, but a good engineer knows that every solution is the hotbed for new problems.

  8. This is weird. Does this mean that Microsoft is uninterested in hiring US citizens?

  9. The other 20% are saying that outdated IT decision makers are holding us back.

  10. Hooray for the Bill of Rights.

  11. Bigotry on Are the Wealthy Plotting To Leave Us Behind? (medium.com) · · Score: 1

This sounds a lot like what I've encountered all my life: Jewish plots. I suspect this current plot of the rich is simply a way to denigrate the wealthy.

  12. When you protect a person from failure, you are removing their ability to improve. Compassion for people is not just about making sure they have a paycheck.

  13. Re:James P. Hogan: Two Faces of Tomorrow (1979) on Killer Robots Will Only Exist If We Are Stupid Enough To Let Them (theguardian.com) · · Score: 1

One of my favorite Sci Fi books.

  14. Raspberry on We're All Getting Dumber, Says Science (fastcompany.com) · · Score: 1

Science says we are all getting dumber? Well, all I can say to that is Pffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttttttt

  15. Sheesh... and this surprises anyone? on The World Isn't Prepared for Retirement (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

I'm an old man. It is clear that the world simply cannot bear the additional cost of non-contributing peoples. This is why they lifted the limit on what you could earn on Social Security. Does anyone think that things will get better when the solution to lubricating the economic engine is to print money?

  16. Try communicating... on In the Trump Administration, Science Is Unwelcome. So Is Advice. (nytimes.com) · · Score: 1

I've been voting for over 40 years. During that time I have written to every single president. Now, I know that my mail is probably simply categorized and reported in a broad statistic I write to them either to approve or disapprove what they do. However, it is interesting to note that the only president who has not had his staff respond back to me, was Obama. I've "heard back" from Trump every time I've written. It kind of made me wonder. Was the mail I sent to Obama just 86ed? Were they even tallying the information for him?

  17. Hasn't the administration been working on this very thing diligently?

  18. Who in their right mind would lay off the people who have demonstrated the greatest sagacity and experience in a company? Especially for a bunch of kids who don't have sufficient character to be honest on the resumes?

  19. We need aquatic scum sucking pigs!

  20. My uncle was a professor of education. He used to say that when a student fails it is the fault of the teacher. This sounds more like they think that the student is at fault for being bored mindless by a lousy teacher? Why not hide the scoring from anyone... then eliminate the teachers whose students show the lowest attentiveness scores?

  21. Just thinking here... on Europe Plans Ban on Plastic Cutlery, Straws and More (cnn.com) · · Score: 1

What about cigarette butts? I see tones of those all over the place? Besides, if they ban plastic cups and straws, I wonder if this will drive the people dependent on fast food extinct? Another ecosystem bites the dust.

  22. The Gig is Up! on Ask Slashdot: Did Baby Boomers Break America? (time.com) · · Score: 1

Let's see... find people to blame. Better that they are not young people, because we need their energy and lack of wisdom. Better make them weak, unpopular, and unimportant. Make every one angry at the scapegoats so they won't think about the government as culprit. Then, make sure that the government is portrayed as the only solution. Then institute austerity measures ... increasing the blame on the scapegoats. Oh wait... this is only history of course.

  23. I seem to remember a joke that the Soviets were fond of... something about no truth in the news and no news in the truth.

  24. Yeah, I lost faith in human drivers when I heard about the 3,200+ fatal crashes that occur every day.

  25. Okay! Now I get it! on The Whole World is Now a Computer, Says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (zdnet.com) · · Score: 1
