I can understand the judges in these cases... they don't want the trial to turn into a circus (like OJ) but they could at least let cameras in to record the proceeding for posterity. (I think this has been allowed several times actually)
We have a $20k machine that does what a person could do in about 30 seconds? Or could be resolved for weeks with a beard trimmer in under a 60 seconds? This looks like a problem that wasn't needing a solution.
I saw the special on PBS in which they show'd the workers and scientists building it. They specifically asked the lead guy what would happen if they lost confinement of the beam and he said the total energy in the beam is about equivalent to a buss traveling at 65mph. He went on to say they believe and area of approximate 8feet by 8feet would be instantaneously vaporized... and it why the facility is underground. It's been a couple of years since I saw that episoned so I might have a couple of the numbers wrong.
I don't own a console but I can understand the appeal. We have 6 computers in our home and in the last couple of months I've replaced a motherboard, a hard drive and a video card. With a console, all you have to do is RMA the whole damned thing. With a PC, if you get a name brand like dell, it's going to suck, be filled with inferior components... oh and you're going to have to pay hundreds of dollars for windows. So you have to build it yourself, deal with the myriad of hardware choices and compatibility issues... yadda yadda yadda. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and do my gaming on a console and just use netbooks for my general PC needs.
Wow, I'm impressed by the detail they provided. More companies should handle outages like this. Makes them look like they know what they're doing, they figured it out, and it wont happen again. Instead of the typical stance of pretending it never happened.
"Despite a 1996 federal law prohibiting municipalities from considering health issues in approving locations for cell antennas, a group of mothers concerned about what they consider risky cell towers outside their children's schools successfully lobbied the town of Hempstead. While the town board adhered to FCC regulations to not consider possible health effects, officials instead described the vote as a quality of life issue. The ordinance provides real protection against the siting of cell towers and antennae in locations that would adversely impact home values or the character of local neighborhoods,"
They town board thinks they're being creative and sneaking around the law, but their about to have the full weight of the multi-billion dollar cellular industry descend on them in the form of a tornado of lawyers that are going to ass-rape their board members until no other municipality ever thinks of trying something this stupid again.
This has nothing to do with audiofiles. I pirate all my music... but I own a record player and a lot of records. Why? Because it's fun to have a party and pull out records... or sit with my wife and listen to old comedy LPs. When I go to see a band live and they have an LP on sale, I buy it. I have no problem with supporting artists but selling me a digital copy of their song isn't going to work. Come to town, have a show, sell me a Tshirt and record. Work for my God damn money and you'll make a lot more than you ever did off the CDs. Musicians that suck live are a thing of the past.
How do you think I know where to buy the steel dumbass? And I wasn't talking about ordering a sword, I was talking about ordering steel to put in my god damned forge. Also, yea, I mixed up Pratchett and Brooks... you got me there.:-p
No, I think the whole god damned world was wondering why they couldn't get rid of the things 5years before apple ever pulled them. The mystery of why my bios still defaults the floppy drive as the first boot device in 2010 will remain a mystery for the ages.
Real swordsmiths have been doing this for years. You can easily order Damascus steel forged from the iron of meteorites at dozens of websites. Just do a google search. Just like his books he's taking the great works of others, copying them and pretending he's created something new. It's the one ring! I mean sword!
Simple, since facebook seems more than willing to allow apps access to all your personal data, they just need to make one that downloads it all and posts it on your new Diaspora page.
People work at the FDA for the specific purpose of doing the industry favors that will later be repaid as cushy high paying jobs when they retire from government. The FDA will trip over themselves trying to beat each other to signing it first.
Who would have ever thought the most popular website in the world, that users can post links on, would have the most links to malware and spam. Oh wait, that just common fucking sense isn't it?
yet despite this, Apollo type vehicles are what we are going to start using again. Who'd have thunk it? More complicated does not always mean better.
Looks like me an Lil' Pete gonna have to fire up the tow truck again. Any you folks if one of these new fangled machines weight more than a Peterbilt?
or, like I said, a beard trimmer.
If we had done the same and gone back to the Apollo program, 14 people would still be alive.

Gotta line those union leader pocketbooks. What were they thinking?

Shit like this will be the end of facebook. Insurance companies will be lining up to scour the site for people to dump.

Yea.. no. You're wrong.
How do I order?
Does this mean that all newspaper stories are freely usable by anyone?...
They already were... well, the newspapers might have thought otherwise... they are just waking up to reality.
Because people pay it.

Yea, but we can use the methane.

Yea, but we dont care about Mac or windows. Duh.
