  1. Easy fix - kill them on Almost Half of US Cellphone Calls Will Be Scams By Next Year, Says Report (cnet.com) · · Score: 0

Once we start killing these people, the problem will start to go away. Own a robocall server? .45ACP to the head. Sit in a boiler room making calls? Off with your head! Just start killing them. All of them. I'd love to see some robocall center owner take a few rounds of 00 buck to the chest at close range. These people don't deserve to breathe. Fuck them.

  7. Yondr Pouches Suck on Jack White Bans Cellphones At Concerts For '100% Human Experience' (nme.com) · · Score: 0

There are some shows I go to alone (because my taste of music isn't mainstream)... so yeah - it's nice to have a phone to kill time between bands rather than trying to make small talk with complete strangers (sorry - classic introvert here). Oh well - the pouches are pretty easy to defeat anyway. Note to venue security - is a felony assault charge worth it over a performer's no cell phone policy? As evidenced by the "cell phone free" Misfits shows at the end of 2017 - Yondr pouches were being torn open and discarded in the venue or thrown on stage as a "fuck you" to Glenn Danzig.

For the record, we've seen Doyle - he's fine with phones. The Misfits (with Jerry Only singing) and he was fine with he - hell... he'd hang out before the show and let fans take pictures with him.

Yeah - so it's a Danzig thing. He tried the "no cell phone" thing when we saw him a few years back. Danzig's a douche anyway. If I were that ugly I wouldn't wan't people taking my picture either.

Last time I saw the Melvins, it was all red LED stage lighting. LED stage lighting, in general, is hell on smartphone cameras - fucks with the auto-focus and washes out the image. Needless-to-say, my pictures/video came out awful. If that was intentional, it worked.

  11. You can train a monkey to do most jobs, however... on Why Do Employers Require College Degrees That Aren't Necessary? (thestreet.com) · · Score: 0

Most jobs really don't require a college degree as you can train a monkey to do most everyday tasks - but most employers are looking for people who are going to stick around for a while, get along with others, and provide some kind of long-term value.

As someone who used to hire/fire IT people - a college degree (with bonus points for someone who went away to school) tells me that the candidate has a better chance of:

    1.) Finishing something he/she started
2.) Can deal with a diverse group of personalities (particularly if they went away to college and endured dorm life)
3.) Developed better reasoning and coping skills
4.) Can meet deadlines and other goals required of college students
5.) Proving they don't rely on mommy and daddy to get through the day
6.) Tend to have better soft people skills

I also gave military vets without college degrees equal footing... and if I had someone with both an honorable discharge and a 4-year degree, they usually went to the top of the pile... but I tended to weed out combat vets due to issues such as PTSD, rigidity, frat-boy mentalities and personality disorders that are common with that segment of population as they likely would not gel with the rest of the department.

For temporary / project work - college degrees aren't as much as a requirement as these people are usually working within a fairly narrow set of requirements and duties anyway. So long as they show up and do what's required of them - that's fine. If they're exceptional workers and there's an opening in the department they'd be a good fit for - they usually get first crack at the job as they're now a known quantity.

Now that said - not everyone's cut out for college, and not every job is suited for a college graduate. Skilled trades are having a tough time filling openings (i.e., carpenters, electricians, plumbers, steelworkers, welders, heavy equipment operators, etc...), and someone who isn't afraid to put on a hard hat, endure the elements and get their hands dirty will likely out-earn most college grads anyway.

Most e-mail providers have secure IMAP (i.e., Gmail, etc...)... and Exchange is alive and well.

  21. I started going to the movies again when they opened a Movie Tavern in the area. Reserved stadium seating, large reclining chairs, waiter service to your seat with a button on the tray to summon them, decent food and BEER in a glass!! Score that a fucking win in my book! Living like Vincent Vega in Amsterdam.

  22. What's gotten me back into the theaters is that a Movie Tavern nearby about a year ago. Reserved seats, comfy large leather recliners in a stadium seating arrangement, lots of legroom, waiter service to your chair with meals, snacks, beverages, beer and wine - and a button at your chair you can push to summon your waiter back for more beer. Prices are not much higher than most theaters, the food is Applebees price and quality and the beer is cheaper than the popcorn.

I like Netflix, but they have too many 2nd rate movies that barely made it to the big screen.
