Perhaps government will put missing persons reports on them, or government mandated reminders of what it means to be a good citizen! So many useful applications!

    I can wait.

While factory food is standard, and large processes and labs are well equipped to measure all you want to know - each batch of fruit has a different nutritional value. A little more sun can do a lot. There is a wide variation in the amount of vitamins in apples.

The costs associated with all the measurements of what you propose are immense.

Also, fruits have very few (none) added sugars or added other components... and there is no trickery.

Just remember: fruit is healthy. It never hurts to eat it. Why have a label if this is true anyway?

And there were no other parties. Now there are geeks in 10 different categories (ranging from small groups of geeks at the pirate bay to huge companies such as Google that owns youtube).
And it seems that the music industry are now themselves hijacked by the lawyers, media, ISP's, electronics manufacturers and whatever else there is in all the posts here on /.
And then there's the RIAA who sue everybody, but I'm not sure if they're still being controlled by anyone, or if they now make their own agenda like a Frankenstein's Monster.

And nobody ever seems to ask the artists anything (except Metallica, who didn't realize that 50% of their fans are geeks).

So... I've come to realize that for every euro I spend on music... at least 99.999% should go to all those organizations and industries. And the percentage is still growing. Parasites.

  21. I disagree on Has the Rate of Technical Progress Slowed? · · Score: 1

We do have new technology, but we fail to implement it. New types of energy could, and should, be implemented a.s.a.p.

Right now, we have an economy that aims to produce more for less. In the good old days, there was energy to spare, and it was quality that mattered. But in order to get quality, you need to spend more energy. And since energy is the bottleneck nowadays, we should be tackling that first.

With a nice new shiny infrastructure for clean energy, we can again send people to the moon and build flying cars. But I wouldn't even want a flying car if that means I have to spend 200 euro on gas just to get to work and back.

    A second remark:
While we don't all have DNA analyzers at home, some serious advances have been made in the medical field. While we didn't put another man on the moon, 2 rovers have been driving around Mars for several years. While computers have been around for years now, they do start to resemble a tricorder in many ways (except that we still can't set our blackberry to stun).

I think that we're just getting very used to technical progress... and if you want a "revolution"... the internet itself is one.

    A last remark:
The more stuff you have, the more you need to spend on maintenance. In the good old days, people just didn't have so much, and spent all their efforts on creating new stuff. Now, we spend all our efforts just to keep all the stuff we built over the last decades up and running.
