  1. Re:It seems good on Reaction To Diablo 3's Always-Online Requirement · · Score: 1

I think it's good. Sure, there are some situations where you cannot connect to internet, but it's really in minority. For the small trade-off you get cheat-free economy and you can play both single-player and multiplayer with the same characters. It's not like Blizzard will be closing down the servers anytime soon, battle.net is still running perfectly for Diablo 2. Besides, this can be mostly blamed on pirates. The 90% piracy rate on PC really means that game companies are starting increasingly to look into implementing as much of the game online as possible. While you can't play the game in an airplane, the overall return for that trade-off is much better.

What the fuck, Slashdot... -1 Troll is not the same as -1 Disagree. That moderation doesn't exist for a reason. Whether you like it or not, that post was legit and reasonable, not a troll... Unless I've just been trolled really hard.

Erm, waterboarding doesn't "hurt" in the sense of pain. It's just extremely unpleasant, to put it lightly. That's the caveat behind many people reasoning that it isn't torture.

Anyway, I'm just being pedantic about:

If it didn't hurt, people would be waterboarding themselves at raves.

  8. Re:Yeah, but they gimped it so bad it's worthless on World of Warcraft Goes Free With Starter Edition · · Score: 1

If you think its "practically turn based", youve never done progression encounters or played in the arenas. There is a global cooldown (and Im not sure it would be feasible to make a game that didnt have some kind of GCD), but against good players it is nothing like a turn-based rpg. There are several "instant" moves which you have to be ready to react to at any time.

I would like to introduce you to Dark Age of Camelot. No GCD, plenty of Instas (which for the most part have cooldowns, the ones can don't can be spammed as fast as you can hit the button...or hold it down on the keyboard), and about as far from turn based as you can get.

As a point of difference, as an example, between DAoC and WoW, a WoW caster gets 10 different spells that he or she rotates in the optimum order to maintain DPS. A DAoC caster gets a "kill" spell of some sort they spam if they're trying to DPS, as well as many types of utility or CC spells.

This sounds simple and boring, except that in DAoC, movement is key, because if you get hit, your spell is completely interrupted, and you cannot cast for another 3 seconds or so. However, this is offset by the ridiculous DPS of a caster who isn't being interrupted.

As another difference, in WoW, leveling is grindy but arguably fun, and there is definitely variety. In DAoC, leveling is both grindy -and- boring! What fun! New players never stay without help. Great way to run a game, thanks Mythic!

Very different games. Absolutely no comparison in the quality of PvE and PvP. DAoC has no good PvE (for the most part). WoW has no good PvP (for the most part). If you disagree about WoW's PvP, then you haven't played DAoC...

It's actually a bit more sane than that in some places.

Though I know longer affiliate myself with Christianity, I went to a Christian Highschool. Their ideas on masturbation were actually fairly rationally laid out:

There is nothing inherently wrong with masturbating. However, there is something wrong with lust. They advised against masturbating solely on the idea that it is practically impossible to do so without lusting for someone in the process (exception below).

They were also fine on sex. They openly discussed it, actually. But they weren't obscene; they kept it respectable in content, and only condoned it for married couples. One interesting addition that caught me off guard is that if you were married and felt the need to masturbate, it was perfectly acceptable to think about your spouse while doing so.
