In response to your noise comment, have you ever worked in an office... Say one with computers? It takes shutting them all off, or wearing noise cancellation headphones (which are cool as hell BTW) to realize how noisy it is around you. Even at home if you run your computers all the time, everything is making noise.

I don't think it's the constant stuff (like computer fans) that's the big problem, but when it changes to something more irritating, or even different. We can get used to the fans.

Multiply the noise by 100 like in a computer lab, and then even the small amount of noise each machine makes combines with the rest until you cannot even hear someone talk next to you...

Plus I agree with the reply above... Rural areas are supposed to be quiet, while no one expects the city to be quiet.

  4. Re:Easily fixed on Record Companies Sued Over Charley Pride CD · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's a nice thought, but I don't think it would work past the 3rd CD. If you are coming in every day to return the same CD, the sales clerks are going to start remembering you and pretty soon the manager is involved. They take your "broken" CD over to the shelves of CD players and pop it in a random CD-audio play and amazingly your broken CD works. Now the manager is telling you that it must be your CD player that is broken.

You can insist that everything else you own works great on it, but alas, he's shown you the one in your hand works perfectly, so it _MUST_ be your CD player that is to blame. Trying to explain anything about how a CD-ROM drive is different than a Disc Man to a mega-chain manager is a futile attempt at best.

Plus there's the whole problem with having to waste a part of every day to drive to the store and wait in the lines to explain that once again your CD doesn't work.

Maybe if you wore a different disguise every day?

SirCam also has its own SMTP server meaning it can send mail without the help of Outlook.

This is not just an Outlook issue, it is a stupid users who open unsolicited attachments without virus scanning them problem.

Any windows email client that allows the user to open email from within the client is just as vulerable as Outlook.

The first time I played Civ it was at a friend's house who really didn't have an idea about the big picture. He knew how to move stuff around and do battle, but no idea about the technology tree.

We didn't understand that pottery or ceremonial burial were important and required for a lot of the higher level technologies. We got to the mid 1800s without even having a boat.

I thought it was a stupid game until he finally showed me the technology map. Then everything made sense. Certain low-level technologies were then given priority to make it back on track for the cooler military and civil techs.

Once this was discovered, it was off to the software store for my own copy and then hour after hour of play time.... And then Master of Orion caught my attention... But that's another story.

For a single frame of video at 5120*4096 at 24 bit color, you'd need 60 MB of memory. That doesn't include anything like Z-buffering, or double or triple buffering, so that's one reason why you don't see the GeForce3 running at that resolution.
