I must be weird. I have 2x 1920x1200 resoluton monitors at home, and feel worthlessly cramped at work with a 1440x900 and 1280x800 (laptop) setup at work.

But then again I do have 20/10 vision, so that may help. I remember about 10 years ago when I had a 19" 1600x1200 monitor. And it died about 4 years ago, and took me about 2 years after that to replace it for something with similar resolution.

AND WHY THE FUCK DON'T LAPTOPS COME WITH BETTER RESOLUTION?

Oh and the Zune is a much better MEDIA PLAYER, than the iPod. Sound is better, bundled headphones are not CRAPTASTISTIC, and the controls are better (no you can't tell me that wheel is something special, it is a up/down arrow combo). I personally HATE iTunes (and well the Zune software isn't that much better) and I don't buy music online (paying for a lossy encoding of a song, fuck that). Granted all the Zune does is play media, no externall HDD WTF!

And no the iTouch, and iPhone are not media players. They are internet tablets, and phones.

Yeah like the time I went into the Apple store to buy a $80 power cord. Because the piece of shit cord about the size of a headphone cord broke. I didn't have time to fix the cord, or order one online because I was going on a trip early the next morning. I got blown off by 3 individual people, before tracking down a manager, by walking into the back (ok so I took a step in and looked around), before I could get raped up the as purchasing it. All the other people cared about were selling iPhones, and PowerBooks. And my girlfriend (the Apple owener) was so put off by the expierence she is buying a PC next. The cost, and maintenance cost of her Apple is also a significant factor. But I can buy some standard AC adapter and plug in my PC.

I hate blanket statements like apple staff are helpful MSFT ones CAN"T BE. They don't push for quality, you cant charge 2k+ for a slow C2D, you have to sell the faster ones. AAPL is all about Form OVER Function.

And don't get me started about pushing Vista. Apple people are way more fanatical about Snow Leapord or Domestic House Cat, or what ever feline OS is coming out next. Vista IS NOT BAD (after SP1, and it was more annoying, extreemly annoying, before SP1 than outright bad) IF you have the hardware. XP is OLD, it is time to move on. And this forced upgrading argument is lost when you are comparing to AAPL.

Now I am not saying all AAPL store emploies are bad. But you can't say they are all good. And how is MSFT poaching the 'good' ones going to all of the sudden make them bad?

I have used AAPL, MSFT, and Linux boxes. They all have their niceities. But if you are half-way savy they all do the same stuff. Except games.

I didn't use pre-made programs during my tests, I did make programs during the tests to do repeat processes. But I got to keep my Drug Wars and Indycar racer games, along with all my other math programs after the test.

Well for starters I really don't see how Spore would teach anything. It is a sort of mindless game.
That being said Civilization is NOT a mindless game. There is no overt math, or whatnot. But there is a good bit of history in the Civilopedia. And to play the game at a somewhat difficult level requires massive amounts of 'rough' easy mental addition. In combat you have to calculate defensive bonuses. In laying out city 'carpet' you need spacial recognition, not to mention planning. Moving units properly requires decent pathing calculations (if you don't use goto, which messes up a lot anyway). Not to mention the good planning skills that such a long turn based strategy game can help devolp.
Now I could have played Civ all day long in 6th grade. But I think (my neighbors included) didn't get the drive. I think some people being forced to play Civ will be just as hard and painful as regular school.
Also Civ is a game. And you can straight up game it. There are ways to bypass all that and just mindlessly build units and take over (assuming low difficulty). Having goto and auto functions would also prevent a lot of the calculations needed. I personally think a Geogrophy/History class in 6th grade could use Civ as a base. Talking deeply into city management could provide prediction skills, and reenforce basic math skills. I don't think 6th graders are up to probability and stats but battles in Civ are all about these two subjects.

Basically at 6th grade some basic math, with writing, reading, and basic problem solving, using Civ as a base would probably work. I would probably want to tweak the game a bit. And honestly basic problem solving is probably more valuable to a 6th grader than most of the stuff I learned. Math and Reading probably would win out, but after that...

No Apple does not have a interest in you being able to tether. They get a cut of your $40 a month tethering plan. That is why this is disabled for ALL CARRIERS that are not APPLE partners. You can't do it unless they get a cut. Even if you have an unlocked phone, you CAN'T tether on a non Apple partner network.

In the US no network (to my knowledge) allows 'free' tethering from devices, that costs extra. So your 'as long as your carries supports it' still sort of works, but if T-Mobile decided to start supporting tethering tomorrow your iPhone WILL NOT be able to do it.
