    Bitcoin is not backed by gold or a government. "faith" in what drives the value of currency. People had faith in gold when currencies were backed by gold. Now it is the faith in governments to keep the economy stable. That's called fiat currency. Bitcoins value is based on faith in faith.

    It's ridiculous. The price is going to crash when there is a "run to exit". Panic selling will induce more panic selling. I can't wait to see bitcoin back to $5. It will be hilarious.

    Matrix 2 and 3 are good but you have to watch them together. ALone or watched weeks/months apart, they are kinda crappy. Bing watch the last two on a weekend and it's actually decent. It's actually a very good series (1,2,3) to bing watch on a weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

    It's not a fiat currency. It's a matter of when it pops, not if.

    It is not backed by gold. It is not backed by the faith of a government (The US dollar is backed by the faith in the US government). This thing is backed by nothing. We don't even know who created it.

    It's going to tank and in splendid fashion. Just wait for the panic selling to start at some point.

    I hate to say this, but the ability to scan someones face for 3D without them knowing it isn't far fetched. The accuracy with which software can take 2D video and make 3D data models is quite frightening. But ya, it's all a little far fetched. You'd need someones phone and a map of their face. Here's what is better. Add a 4 digit pin!

    The US dollar is a powerful world currency because it is backed by the good faith of the US government. Bitcoins will fail eventually since they are not backed by anything substantial. Read up on fiat currency and the rational will be understood.

    At some point it will be able to replicate the intelgence of a flea, then a frog, then a dog, then a 3 year old baby, then a 10 year old, then a high school student, then a college grad, then a PhD. Eventually it will be Einstein like in intelligence.

    Some scary things:
    1) Eventually it will evolve to be able to create new AIs on it's own. And this will probably occur at an exponential rate.
    2) The scary thing is what happens when it is 10x smarter than Einstien. Or 100x?

    I read interesting theories that an AI could eventually be so intelligent that it could use the knowledge of hardware design and EMI effects of that hardware at such a great detailed level that it could find new ways to communicate with other AIs and we would be oblivious? Tack on language creation, etc and we will have technology vastly superior to the human brain that will operate in ways that we do not understand and frankly, we won't know what it is doing.

    It's when not if.

    Thank god someone with billions is trying to crate disruptive technologies. I think he knows that he might end up loosing money overall but I don't think having just $1 billion 10 years from now is going to bother him.

    They are the 4th largest company in the USA doing this. It started in 2006 I think. He said he'd never be able to do the same startup today. He struck early enough that he could enter the market. Today it is saturated. Timing is a big part of it.

    Imagine Warren Buffett if he were born on an island where hunting skill was valuable. He'd be poor. The best hunter would be the wealthy one. Don't ignore the place you live.
