    On the other hand, if someone breaks into my house I will shoot them. Granted only if I'm certan (you have a couple seconds to decide).

    I agree that just randomly attaching systems is a bad idea, but if someboy atacks yours I see nothing wrong with takeing them out. This should be done with caution though, most of the systems in question arn't owned by the people who are causing the problem. Hence the problem lies.

    I think 'disabling' the system is ok, but destroying it, or causing any sort of actual damage is not. It's not a matter of life and death as someone breaking into your house very well might be.

    Just in case your curious, I sleep with a loaded handgun on my headboard and will use it.

    IMHO it boils down to human nature. Alice does a pretty good job at fooling someone due to the way it works.

    How many converstaions do you have that might as well be pre-recorded?

    Humans arn't all that creative, and tend to repeat what others say.

    Somehow I don't see the value of being able to swap out all the drives.

    Most of all, the drive you boot from. Sure you can switch it out, but that will probably result in a kernel panic. Heh.

    Aside from that it seems to be a good idea. But I'm still not sure how I feel about a serial HD. I remember the USB HD I got a while back. Yow, it works but danm was it slow and most of all unreliable.

    One word, gnutella. Or any other file sharing package.

    I filled my file server in about 2 weeks with that, I'm talking 70 gigs and a fast connection. And I need larger drives now.

    Some of us just happen to pickup the slack for everyone else who doesn't take full advantage of what's in front of them.

    I think this is a wonderfull thing. We could get some very good works that would otherwize not existed.

    Very similar to software that lets blind people use computers for general use.

    It's all about using technology to let everyone have access, and become productive members of society.

    My laptop is an iBook running OS X, if someone puts widnows on it more power to them :)

    I take it with me everywhere, the sleep feature works very well. I don't think I've shut it off since I got it about a year ago (not counting reboots).

    I've got my laptop set to format the drive (yes | rm -r /) if I don't login every so often. Currently it's set at two weeks (I don't reboot much). I don't see this causing any issues, and it makes me feel better.

    So far so good :)

    Note that this gets around the annoying having to do something special to make it work. I'd login anyway :)

    Worn out, I think not. I have a quadra 660av I use exactly for this now.

    It's been in service for almost 10 years now without even the slightest hickup. I expect it to continue working well into the future.

    But, just in case, I have an entire *stack* of them. You must be prepared...

    This would be more trouble than you can imagine. You would have to have a second verison of OS X just to run on the x86. Then you would need two diffrent versions of all the software. Unless of course they build some emulation in, but that would suck.

    In the end you would have nothing but a bunch of confused users who would have to look *really* close when buying software.

    Personaly I'm going to stick with mp3 for audio, and mpeg for video. Since I runs a PC, a linux box, and a couple macs, this is the only way to go. Those are the only two formats that are truely compatable between these various systems. Or, at least the only ones that matter IMHO.

    While they may not be truely open source (I still shudder at that name (it should just be GPL folks)), I don't care. The formats have been toyed with enough that they are understood.

    No, I'm serious. I'm a pervert, and have seen just about everything you can imagine. Except a girl getting it on with a monkey.

    I just spent the last hour searching, and found nada, ziltch, zip. Lots of porn sites that claimed to have pictures of monkeys having sex with people, but no real meat.

    The one picture I did find that was even similar involved a monkey giving some guy a blowjob. While kina close to what I was looking for, it wasn't it.

    Anyone else having my problem?

    Up to six hours if I don't use my CDrom, and even more if I dim my screen.

    Granted it does depend on what I'm doing. HD access is probably one of the biggest killers other than the screen. That's why virtual memory is *disabled* ;)

    I bring my iBook to work, that way I can have it setup the way I want. I have all the programs I enjoy using, and can actualy do work more efficently.

    Do you enjoy using random keyboards? Come home, and can't type worth shit? That's the problem I ran into the first week I was there. Yes, I'm a touch typest. Quite annoying, this solves the problem.

    Aside from that, I control what's installed on it. No keylogers here. Trust me, I work in a very non Mac place. Doubtfull anyone would have done anything like that.

    But the point of this, is yes. If it's the companys computer, it's not yours. Treat it as such. If it's yours, do as you will.

    Though, I do think it's a bit odd that they decied to stick me behind a firewall (only me)...
