Most of the small device companies have a USB hookup, but guess what - that takes a proprietary cable too!
One Reason these companies have not adopted USB (or any other standard)for charging is money. If I buy a Samsung phone a Windows mobile device, a Mp3 Player and a camera, and they all take the same charger, then the respective manufacturers are out a LOT of money. Honestly, from a consumer standpoint I think it's dumb too.
We'll I've added one new CD every year to my collection ever since. Now I have a whopping 26 discs! It'll only take me 1674 more years to replace all my vinyl, cassettes and 8 tracks.
What we're talking about here is the ability to CODE not to tell programmers what works as a UI. If you are better suited to be an end user or debugger, or a liaison of some sort, don't friggin program, because chances are - you suck at programming, but know how a UI should operate. Instead what is needed is that "liaison" person to LEAD a programming project, and make sure it's good for an end user. Programmers sometimes get blinded by their own ideas and end up making a program that is useless to anyone else but them.
Freeware/shareware programmers all to often do not get someone like this involved ; they're self- employed enthusiasts, looking for some crap to add to a portfolio.
bitch... but you f'd yourself good by creating hype that never was there. Buck cherry? didn't their singer get turned down by slash before Velvet Revolver formed?
Crap. Simply Crap.
...anybody who isn't purchasing hardware exclusively for their profession is classed as a home user.
Do you meet the requirements for dealing with business customers? Are you employed to make decisions on hardware purchases (and if you do it obviously shouldn't be used privately)? Do you own your own business? Can the computers be depreciated on your tax? If not, you're a normal run-of-the-mill home user.
If telling DELL that I'm a business customer is the only way im going to get XP pro on ANY system I choose, then therin lies the difficulty! WHAT AM I ?!?
DTFR. The need for xp Pro is usually facilitated by the need to connect to a Domain.
It doesn't matter whether you do this at home or work, and certainly doesn't matter if your need is for a profession.
So what the heck do YOU classify a home user who wants to connect to his domain server?
I find Domain usage is way more secure and easily managed than any other form of windows networking - and I use it at home!
Maybe try A SATELLITE DISH? There are 3rd world countries are building these things out of coke cans! Sure you could get some use out of yours, or maybe give it to some poor amazonian tribe who need to learn how to count by watching some Sesame Street!
As if the internet and other forms of mass media weren't enough.
I bet the first large scale use of this will contain some sort of forced advertising, and it won't be subliminal, it will be blatant, assuredly annoying and just might make you sign up for that monthly subscription to SIRIUS GAMMA.
- wait... streaming radio in my head? That might actually be cool.
"...The life of everyone on board depends upon just one thing: finding someone back there who can not only fly this plane, but who didn't have fish for dinner!"
tell us you actually shut down you home or work pc every time your not using it! Actually you wasted a lot of carbon by not only making that dumb comment but posting it so people took the 2.7 seconds to read it and now the 20.4 seconds for me to reply. ugh. you've now created a perpetual energy-eater!
He had the ribbon cable soldered somewhere on the Motherboard... although now that you mention it, I've been trying to locate John Conner . He's not in trouble, I just want to ask him a few questions.

I've used many, many PDA's for over 10 years now, starting with a timex @ ~200k then on to a Palm IIIx(e), and eventually a Windows Mobile device and a Blackberry, too. What are you talking about battery life being better than 20 hours on modern PDA's?? I can say by experiences with all of the devices I've used (I used to sell them via retail, too and most of the other varieties are the same) that battery life of modern PDA's are much much less than 20 hours. This is primarily fueled by the need to make them smaller, and (you say useful, I say) bloated with features. Stronger processors, more storage, quicker storage access, beautiful backlit color screens, rich audio, network connectivity and multiple I/Os coupled with TEEENNY TINY batteries! I get about 2.5 hours of Pocket Word with backlight on low and nothing else running. How's that for progress?
