510 billion fucking dollars to bomb people around the world, and we can't get $4 million for research. When the DOD cut funding for basic research ~2 years ago, another slashdotter said it best:
I'll put it in StarCraft terms: you're spending your minerals on upgrading your Zealots, and failing to invest in the pylons and tech structures that would allow you to build a whole frickin' fleet of Protoss Carriers. -flyingsquid
To be fair, the "strange smell" smelled like natural gas, and if you've ever known someone careless w/ their stove, then you can understand why everyone was worried. Factor in the wide area of the smell and the fact that no one has given a good explanation for the smell, and I hope you can see why I feel that it was a different situation from this Boston nonsense.
I will believe in the healing power of technology if they invent an alternative to snaking a camera inside my goddamned urethra just because some quack thinks there might be a problem in that general region.
I suspect you are slightly confusing C# and the.NET class library... but your analysis of data binding, resource files and events/delegates is spot on. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.
The sources of the story were Republicans, according to ABC News.
Good news though: Tom Reynolds' chief of staff, who warned Hastert about Foley 2 years ago, is talking to the FBI. They should be able to get to the bottom of this, soon...
The House Leadership knew that Foley had a thing for minors, but they did nothing. No amount of technology is going to stop pedophiles if our leaders aren't willing to hold themselves accountable!
You AND ObsessiveMathsFreak are both right. The Bush Administration are experts at seizing and holding power, but they're completely incompetent when it comes to the technical execution of actual governance.
If we (the people of the United States) don't use our right to vote this year and in 2008 to shake up those who imposed these draconian "solutions" to terrorism, well, shame on us all.
Not sure if there are any near you, but we (USA) have got some pretty important elections coming up in a couple of months... If we can't even the odds in those elections, then nothing is going to change in 2008.
Ted Stevens may just be America's largest douchebag, but he wasn't alone on this one... Did anyone notice that West Virgnia Democrat Robert Byrd also had a hold on the bill? Byrd's reasoning went, "Senators should read and debate bills before they vote on them."
New topic: Alaskans have repeatedly voted to put Ted Stevens in the Senate. Can America survive if we cut Alaska loose? We know Alaska can survive; they've got plenty of oil.
Once upon a time, Slashdot had a very useful feature called "slashback", where every so often, they would follow up on a few of the front page articles from the last week or so...
If you liked this book and want to read more, don't forget to check out de Mare's blog.
I know I'm nitpicking here, but he's the author, not the artist. The artist works for a video game company on the opposite coast.
As long as I can run Warcraft 3 from Ubuntu, I don't think the future will be so bad...
Might be able to find help @ nodaddy...

My friends and I spent the entire year playing Warcraft III. It was a good year.

Nothing says improved quality like reduced standards...

I slept through this, so I don't know: Did they post amusing music to celebrate their downtime?
Since Polar Bears are one of the few species that actively hunt humans, shouldn't we celebrate?
Or at least round up the survivors, tattoo their heads w/ flurescent bar codes and train them to use firearms?
He hooked up w/ a chick he met online, what in FSM's name could he possibly have to complain about?
Powerstone 2 is a fun, frenetic game. Seriously, if you like Smash Brothers, you'll love this game.
Just ignore the Island of Penises they used for the title screen.
Age for truth!

The proof would be the memos which went out as early as 5 years ago warning pages about Foley...
What does "the Left" have to do with this? Did you not see Bay Buchanan and the Washington Times calling for Hastert to resign?

Given the # of people who are only allowed to use IE when they're at work, if /. stops working w/ IE, productivity should skyrocket.

I'm reminded of MC Frontalot's Charity Case, where he's "begging ya'll to believe his CD isn't free!"
The next question, I guess, is how many of the other 900 reviews went the same way?
