When I read 'Sili-Hudson', I assumed ya'll were talking about the Hudson River by Manhattan, not Albany in upstate NY... Hoboken sucks, we need more tech companies down here >_<
I realize that further discussion on this topic is useless because we already know that the version of windows embedded into these cars is CE, not 98. However, for all of you wondering what it takes to embed win98, here's someone who did it:
Gtk# doesn't currently work on Windows as the Microsoft runtime is incompatible with Gtk+ libraries that aren't linked with MSVC's lib.exe tool. Tor Lillqvist's Gtk+ for Windows won't work. While there's no active effort within the Mono project to recompile the DLLs, you're welcome to try yourself. build- dll is an example of how this has been achieved in the past.
Another consideration is porting SoundStream to Win32. This should be trivial for anyone familiar with Windows sound programming.
Absolutely brilliant! What's stopping people from implementing WinForms on Mono instead of being forced to use this shit?
Windows Forms is probably going to be the trickiest one because we might have to do some emulation of the Win32 layer.
ARGHROWARSD;FLKJSDF!!
My favorite part of.NET and my main reason for using it is the one that's gonna take the longest to find on other platforms? GODDAMMIT
Make up your mind. If you want Windows only, do it in WTL. There is no part of WTL that is not better than MFC. Microsoft uses it internally.
If you're used to MFC, then you should check out.NET... C# & Windows Forms are a godsend compared to MFC's nonstop bullshit.
If you're going to use wxWindows, keep in mind that it works very well with Python, so you may want to go that route rather than play the "VC++ does it this way and GCC does it this way and everyone's telling me to rtfm and I hate my life" game.
There are plenty of other people here who are qualified to tell you about tk or qt or mozilla or other cross platform toolkits.
For God's sake, don't do MFC. Not when there are SO many other options and each one brings more benefits to the table. Nothing you could have done, including raping prematurely born babies, could possibly deserve having to write an app in MFC. The world has come so far in the last 10+ years... Join us!
See, that's what the Anonymous Coward thing is for? To prevent people like you from being sued. Tell us about the lawsuit in a slashback, k?

Loooooooooooong time ago, in one of the sites I was working on, if you didn't have Javascript enabled it would just print "Hairy Moose Balls" instead of showing the rest of the site. It was a stupid testing thing, nothing serious. Of course, my boss ended up demoing the site to the client and the client didn't have JS enabled... Surprise!
Who needs walls and signs when the human body could do it more efficiently.
Of course, when this happens for real, I think it will be time to check myself out of the gene pool.
You're going to sterilize yourself when salespeople become a reality? Wha?
I was about to post something about how all ya'll Nutscrape lusers can suck it down, then I discovered that the Javascript for one of the admin pages on my personal site doesn't work in Opera 6.02 (fave browser for work). On the one hand, I now empathize with all ya'll. On the other hand, I now feel like a total idiot.
Cause that's what people working for corporations are, wage-slaves, right? Two things are required for slaves to row that boat:
1. Whip: No one WANTS to work for someone else, but they have to because other options of putting dinner on the plate aren't always feasible. Because dinner is foremost on their mind, the whip is not required. 2. Beat: that dude at the back of the boat has to pound that drum so everyone knows when to row. You listen to music while you jog, you listen to music while you're relaxing, you listen to music on your way to and from work. Rhythm isn't required for you to work, but it relaxes you to the point where your alienation from your species being isn't so bad..
There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to listen to music at work if you've got a pair of headphones and your work b0x has a sound card. It keeps time as your labor produces capital. That must be good for business, right?
MSDN used to have a column called Stone's Way or something, and in one of them they discussed user case testing: set up a video camera to record the user as he/she uses the program OR masquerade as a nondeveloper and spy on the user as he/she uses the program.
If you're just looking for regular bug testing, assume it's a given that the user will not report bugs to you and have the program automatically email you a core dump and/or stack trace and/or any appropriate data if an unhandled exception occurs.
Have you been to a Microsoft interview? 4 different interviewers, each one asking a different set of riddles, each one telling you to write your algorithm on a piece of paper while you explain what's going on in your mind.
Maybe they don't want a college degree, but they're either very picky or they didn't like the way I smelled.
Below that, they should have a little disclaimer: Please leave all pretentious wanking at the door. You can pick it up when you leave. Thank you.
Most of us Karma Whores (I use the power of.NET to Karma Whore for me, I'm cool!) at least take the time and care and love to post the URL to the previous Slashdot story that's identical to the one we're complaining about. Since you included no url, you have no valid reason for the story to be redundant. Since you gave no reasons for the story to be pointless, I'm guessing you have none.
Your mods would have been metamodded out of existence.

Slide 19? Anyone? I can't see it in IE 5.01 sp2 or Opera 6.02...
What is serialized development?
Anyone use SourceDepot? Opinions?
WTF is that big X in Slide 31? Zero parallel development?
Anyone else here watch Smallville? Imagine WB turning this into a whiny ('angsty') teen drama?
OpenGL will die on Windows at ~the same time as John Carmack dies.

What was the old whipping boy CDBTPA [sp]? You may recall that our paranoia kicked the ever living fuck outta that bill.

Yes, the zerg are in Warcraft III if you know where to look.
And if anyone's in the mood for strategy with great storytelling, may I humbly suggest Tactics Ogre: the Knight of Lodis for Game Boy Advance?

The best science that people can come up with for Paper-Scissor-Rock is based on the Princess Bride?!
Anyone seen that movie SciFi had on a week ago? Dog Soldiers? UFOs are weak compared to that shit.
