the.net plugin was hard to take out, it was effectively stuck unless you performed something MS didn't want you to. In this case, there is a nice shiny uninstall option if you want to get rid of it.
the difference is that GPU's are simply so much more powerfull. In high-end systems, i think it would be more usefull to scrap the expensive cpu, switch a cheap-o thing in, and let the GPU handle what the CPU can't.
left 4 dead is a really bad example - not much special happens in there, and especially not physics. But look at a game like crysis, and look at the cryengine 2. Can you implement such a physics system into the quake engine?
have you seen a lot of space shooters since 2000? There where some, but they definetely weren't the ones pushing. FPS games have been pushing for quite a while.
the fact hat MS will sue you with a bunch of over-paid lawyers over their products. If you then say "they did the same", it'll get wishked away. The only thing that can be done is for the GPL patent holders to sue MS.
i agree. The only place i can see some "real" AI's ending up is in games, fighting for their own "survival"... but those are hardly a threat to humanity. Maybe to gamers:)
I live in belgium, and i've never played a game in dutch. It's always been in english. If it's the original language, it just makes more sence. If the game has been ported, then quite often the english still sounds/reads better. I've once seen a dutch version of a sci-fi game; it was horrible.
small problem; it may cost only 500$ in america, but in europe tv's like that cost well over â800. basicallly, america is milking out europe for just about everything.
too bad most schools learn VB because of MS's power to persuave schools with cost reduction...
I'm one of those people that is screwed up for life i guess.
Still, I always wondered how this would scale if it got really popular: I can't imagine a computer being able to stream multiple high-graphics game for multiple clients.
Well, just run multiple games on one pc. One pc with 2 decent graphics cards should be able to run a new game(albeight not at ultr and a few old ones (or 10 million mario kart 64's...)
I used to love XP.
Not anymore.
Once i installed Windows 7, i have no intention of going back to stupid XP.
Windows 7 for me is more stable, faster and less crashing.
Benefits:
1) Windows 7 installs faster and less intrusive than XP.
2) Windows 7 networking is far more advanced than the usual XP crap.
3) Display drivers crash do not cause a BSOD. Hell my nvidia beta driver crashed when i was running CoH:ToV. Windows 7 quietly told me the situation, restarted the driver and asked me if i wanted to roll back to previous version. I did.
4) Windows 7 is faster than XP in many ways. Multitasking, file operations, USB access, etc., all are much faster.
5) Device Manager shoots XP out of the water. I can pin point exact problems, roll back only those that are needed, and more.
For me, Windows 7 is a god-send. I haven't used Vista, but i love Windows 7 and would definitely pay good money for this.
I've been seeing things like this a lot recently. There's a little problem with that reasoning to me; how can win7 be more stable and crash less then a completely stable and never-crashing OS? The only reason XP could be brought down is by having faulty hardware or faulty drivers.
By the way; your first benefit really isn't worth as much. You only install once (at least i do, and then make a ghost of the clean install).
your third is also nearly impossible in XP; the drivers are just good, so no crashes.
you know, you took it literally. He compared quake, wolfenstein, etc. all as doom. It's ridiculous, and i showed so with the other games. quake is just as much as doom as fallout is like elder scrolls; they're completely different.
as long as ID software keeps doing what it's doing now (making high-quality games) that's good. If, however, they act out like bethesda and make Doom 4 and other upcoming titles rushed a la fallout 3, then they'll see their sales drop a lot.
Honestly, what would this achieve? Then the RIAA would either just sue more people and get their money or ask for a lot more money per person they sue. Neither of them are good. With the millions they can get in a single lawsuit, i think they realised how much money they can get from their ways.
as far as i know, a lot of attempts have been made at something like this, and they all failed. I do hope this one succeeds tough; it'd be good to use tactics on such a large scale:).
when you register, linden labs clearly states that what the people make is their work, and linden labs doesn't interfere... so why does taser try this? They need to contact the maker, but of course it's easier to get linden labs.
aren't we both? We have bacteria living in about every part of us, and do'nt forget the blood cells and all.
And we sure as hell are a being made of flesh too...
well, what can they do? I know they shut down 12:00 to 13:00 in GMT+1, and when that does their whole server goes offline. This can't be helped.

you've only got 10 words :P

erm... once the cure is there, it's there forever. Sooner or later, the ratio of 1-1 WILL be overtaken.

and since the company that made it is broke, it won't be coming anymore.

i know, i said the same in my first post up high in this list. The one who tagged this is either stupid or took drugs.
was the one who tagged this on drugs? hardware? power?

they've got upcoming titles right now, so yes.
that logic could only be accepted if you see every single shooter as doom. In that case i could say every RPG is elder scrolls.
