However, many of them will be lucky enough to have someone tell them the right way to watch the movies. (Start with ANH, and go forward until "I am your father", then gosub to TPM, AotC, and RotS to get the story behind Vader, then return and finish the series). It would be a spoiler for these people.

No, the right way is obviously not to watch TPM, AtoC and RotS at all. And live happily ever after.

Nice theory, but from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lock_braking_sys tem :

"The purpose of this is twofold: to allow the driver to maintain steering control under heavy braking and, in most situations, to shorten braking distances (by allowing the driver to hit the brake fully without the fear of skidding or loss of control)."

Perhaps not losing control of the car might reduce the risk. Or what do you think?

Had you kept to your original idea with

"ABS brakes are the subject of some widely-cited experiments in support of risk compensation theory, which support the view that drivers adapt to the safety benefit of ABS by driving more aggressively. The two major examples are from Munich and Oslo. In both cases taxi drivers in mixed fleets were found to exhibit greater risk-taking when driving cars equipped with ABS, with the result that collision rates between ABS and non ABS cars were not significantly different."

from the same page I'd agree with you. Not that ABS did not make it worse, though.

From what I've seen nothing in the US and Canada is built to save energy. Even houses up in Banff had thin walls with hardly any insulation - just turn the heater way up if it gets cold. And then there's the cars... not only are they comparatively *huge*, but without a car you can't get anywhere (except for bigger citys, perhaps). And there's another problem: you seem to view your readers as foes of sorts, at least when they criticise you and don't act all fanboy-ish. This is evident in statements "they are welcome to disagree, but at least I've been clear on the matter" - what you're basically saying is "I'm not interested in hearing any criticism". Well, that's your right, of course, but if you actually want to improve, then - again - you have to be able to acknowledge that there might be some validity in the criticism you're receiving.

As I read it he says that some will not agree with his ideas, and he will not change to appease them. While I agree that spelling & grammar errors are annoying and should be avoided as much as possible, I can understand that Taco has a different view on the subject. This doesn't make me his "foe" in any way.

Additionally, after reading slashdot for a number of years I can surely imagine that much of the criticism is *very* harsh/rude. Unless you've read the e-mails he's getting I'm not sure that "the people" aren't in anyway part of the problem.
