Look what you can get for that kind of money (granted, this was a bit more expensive back then, but amazon is still the same price): https://www.hetzner.com/dedica...

Now, it would've been cheaper, yes, if my boss fired me, his system admin, and managed all by himself. But he still needed me to make sense out of all of that, and setup everything we have / need running on these instances.

Amazon started this "oh we're cheaper if you do X, and Y" because it's their business and they wanted the money spent their way.

In many cases it's reported BECAUSE it's 'ISLAMIC', and people caught up on that, and people are sick of that, which for example, a person like Trump won presidential elections. Especially if it's coming from left leaning media. It's actually sad. TBH, if I wrote the article, I would drop the word "islamic" all together, it's irrelevant. I'm against censoriship, euphemisms, and word manipulation for PC purposes, but int his case.. I would word it differently.

The only thing that has real value to human beings is food including water. So unless you start thinking about trading in cans of tuna, bread and yogurt, drop the 'oh CCs are not special like what we have now' and 'oh but CC doesn't have real value' it's getting boring already.

NOTHING except food and water has any real meaning or value, bitcoin is same shit what we have now but different form. I get to buy food and water with it because people say it's worth X amount of dollars, and then people say that X amount of dollars is worth X kilos of bread.

Bitcoin is backed by people that have no where else to go, call them criminals, thieves, drug dealers, Chinese, whatever. and while these people are alive, the CC will be alive.

Not everything is about IQ. For example, there are a lot of smart people floating around that really do think God (as described in Bible) exist or that X = Y, or whatever else.

There are all kinds of people. We see IQ as it's ultimate and final metric for whatever, ignoring dozen other things that are equally important but we have no way of measuring them. Emotional Intelligence, Awareness or Consciousness levels (not all people are the same when it comes to awareness of themselves and their surroundings, but they might be good at crunching numbers for example).. etc.

We're just scratching the surface here.. there's ton that we don't know yet and making assumptions like we do know is dangerous and often leads to inflated ego.

Depends what sector of IT, but it's an ungrateful job.

You have to constantly learn and improve.
Companies tend to hire younger people they can exploit more.
Companies tend to hire cheap barely skilled labor over investing in quality people.
Management has no idea what they're doing, as most of them don't understand IT at all.. they just know buzzwords such as Agile, Cloud, whatever.
If you're in some kind of NOC, you're basically a plumber.. and treated that way too.
If you're programmer you're basically just a drone ... and treated that way too.

    Etc. Etc.

I've been in IT since 2001, it's getting worse and worse (at least for me) to the point where now at 32, I'm trying to make something of my own (product/service) so I at least I don't have to deal with bosses, management, agile standup bullshit meetings, or discussing cloud providers.

Hopefully I will, otherwise I might commit suicide.

I only have it because they have subtitles and my GF finds it easier to follow with subtitles, and just this month I switched it to iflix (south east asian netflix with a slightly different business model (they rent out shows for 6-7 months for distribution) that charges $3 per month and I get more content + older tv shows and movies which I like to re-watch.
