I have upgrade since Ubuntu 6.06 (as the each release get to Beta release) on the same laptop HP dv5000z and let me tell you Ubuntu 8.10 has been the fastest and the most responsive yet. Much faster than XP Pro (as I booted into the partition last week to update the software I had installed it and it was crawling, mind you that I hadn't booted into the XP partition since I set up that partition two and half years ago).
I have a HP dv5000z and Ubuntu has been great on it. It see all the media buttons, touch pad is supported, hibernate works, and much faster than Win XP Pro SP2 running on it.
Damn it Asus, I just bought an Eee box like couple of months ago...should have waited! Oh well, I am happy with my setup, took off XP Home and installed Xubuntu with Compiz and AWN...awesome!
Well I only use the Writer for majority of the time and I really welcome all the nifty changes that are in place. Good thing it is finally released, so when will the Linux distributions start to update OO 2.x to 00 3.0?
Can't wait for this to be finalized, I have been using it on my Windows XP machine for a few weeks now and like it very much. Hopefully Ubuntu will updated once 3.0 is out.
I am planning on getting one myself maybe next year. I love the Eee Box especially with Xubuntu on it and I have been very happy with it. I am leaning more towards the Dell netbook as It comes preloaded with my favorite OS Ubuntu.
This is a good thing and what Canonical needs to do is market it on their site so people would know about it and have Dell and System76 point to it as well. If they really want to become an true alternative to Windows and OS X then this would taking steps in the right direction.
I say give the user the choice to take off Epiphany/Ice Weasel if they are installed by default and have the user install Firefox if they want to. I would rather Canonical go with Iceweasel than Firefox as it is more compatible with Firefox.
Me being the geek that I am, I would have one of these in my house, I just got the Eee Box and I love it, and with this being different in processor and stuff I would love to tinker with it.

The college I am attending is one of them, and right now making video game seems to be the most popular concentration in Computer Science department.
AV program ClamWin should do the trick very well. Lightweight and works well.

I had to take off all my homebrew apps just to do the update...it's a cat and mouse game.
He actually has a very interesting point.
This is one huge leap forward for India!
This is indeed really good news, multimedia is getting better and better on Linux platform as the months go by.

Much better than Vista and rumored Vienna! :-)

I just hope it won't be $50 a game, which in total will equal $150...thanks Activision!
Happy birthday Linux...one more year and you vote and go off to Iraq and fight terrorism.

No kidding man, that would be a awesome connection.
Must be nice...I would love have that connection at home, then I can download all my favorite anime at a much higher speed.
Considering the fact that GMail is my primary email that is actually very good news...this is becoming more and more appealing to me.
Awesome, aside from Ubuntu the other distro I really like is Mandriva. I wonder if they are going to use LXDE as the desktop environment.

Interesting, I would like to see what comes out of this. I like HP products as they are good quality...oh please make is based on Debian!
Well that alright, we got Dell with Ubuntu and Asus with Xandros! Not to mention HP is warming up...sorta, and Acer has their netbook.

Wow...even IE has incorporated the "awesome bar!" That is by far one of the most beloved features in FF 3.0 for me.
