The appleTV is a great idea, but the lack of broadcast time-shifting is a killer, for me.
I have a Tivo. It was free with MIR, and costs me $10 a month for service. That was worth every penny (since it includes a program guide- I cancelled digital cable and no one complained). But since Tivo Desktop came out and amazon's unbox service debuted, I can easily download TV, movies, music and photos to my tivo (purchased or personal copies), and pull recorded broadcasts from my tivo to my mac. With two clicks from Toast, I can burn DVDs of recorded shows and movies. And the Tivo UI is easy and intuitive, which takes away apple's usual trump card.
In fact, the only downside to a Tivo I can see is that my itunes purchases can't be downloaded to it.;)
The entry of new carriers was mandated in the last spectrum auction (1900mhz pcs). Just like this one. So what does this mean? Prepare to see two small carriers try to play catch-up for five years, then get bought out by telus and rogers.
Actually, similar rules were instituted on the last auction sale (the PCS 1900mhz band). Clearnet and Fido (Microcell Connexions) were the newcomers, and built out for a few years before being bought outright by Telus and Rogers. I would guess something similar will happen with the next set of entrants.

No chance of migrating to MSSQL? You could rebuild the front end to access a local SQL server express DB then replicate changes to a central database for ease of reporting.. I know, easier said than done, but it would be well worth it to ditch access.
$600 sounds like a lot at once, but it will probably be like "Hey, I feel like playing rc pro am!", or "I bet I can beat earthbound in a weekend"..
Twenty to thirty bucks a month until my nostalgia runs out. I still have all my old carts, but getting my NES to load is a chore, and my super's only in slightly better shape. Fitting everything into one sleek device by my TV makes it all easy..
Yes, the wii will let you play NES games. but you can't plug in your old carts-- you have to buy them from nintendo using the "Virtual console" service. Prices haven't been announced, but I think NES games will be in the sub-$5 range, SNES games sub-$10 and N64 games sub-$20. They're a little high compared to free roms, but if they release in that range I'll probably end up buying my entire collection over again.. over 60 NES games and 30 SNES gams:P
Not true. I have a Clie I bought in 2002 that I can't use anymore because the battery is not user replaceable. Heck, it's not replaceable by anyone-- Sony soldered it to the mainboard.

SC2k runs great in dosbox. and I've run the mac classic version under sheepshaver without any major trouble (enabling sound makes it dog slow).

That's because camino stores login data in the keychain- the cross application OSX credential store.
That way it's accessible from other applications that have keychain access. in other words, it's designed that way.
