    I see someone does not understand probability.

    A raid 0 is indeed more likely to fail than a single disk.
    Let's say the probability of one disk failing within 5 years is 2.5% and we have a 2-disk raid 0.
    Then the probability of the raid 0 failing is
    P(X>=1) = 1 - P(X=0) = 1 - (1-0.025)^2 = 0.049375

    There are far more serious issues the UK should deal with than cutlery.

    Yea, I only buy Seasonic and you're right, EarthWatts have their good reputation because they were made by Seasonic.
    I bought an Antec NSK 4480, which comes with one, and am happy with it.
    The case, on the other hand, is..well, it was considerably cheaper (150EUR at the time) than an Antec P182 + a Seasonic PSU.

    Once had a bequiet! which was neither quiet nor any good, so I don't trust them anymore.

    The older EarthWatts were made by Seasonic, the newer ones are made by Delta.

    If it's running 24/7 and your old Athlon 3200+ was good enough, then pick any current dual or quad desktop CPU with the lowest energy usage.
    Pick a motherboard with an IGP and plenty of SATA2.
    Throw in 8 or 16GB RAM and a couple of hdds.
    Most importantly, check silentpcreview.com so you know which case to buy and how to silence it.

    Opera's mail client could always delete old mail, the new thing here is that it can automatically delete after n days.

    Interesting.
    I have a PII-400 with Win95 which boots in about 15 seconds, including a 5sec GRUB delay, and shuts down in 1-2 seconds.
    SCSI hdds are nice.

    Yes I know, but I don't intend to pirate a game I don't plan on buying even if I liked it.
    I find it morally wrong to pirate something and keeping it if I like it instead of buying it and showing my gratitude for hours of fun with that purchase.
    The last game I pirated was Civilization 4, which initially had a lot of bugs with graphic cards. While the game was pure fun when it worked, the bugs affected my radeon 9800 pro, so a purchase was postponed and I deleted the game. After patch 1.74 was released last year I bought it and had fun with it ever since, even though it uses SafeDisc 4.

    Maybe we can download it for free, without the DRM, in 10 years or so.
    I would buy it if it was less than 10EUR simply because I have collected all other C&C games, as I am an old geezer just like you who has fallen in love with what Westwood once created.
    But like Joy Division once sang, "Love will tear us apart again", it seems this romance is over.

    Okay, I know these are unpopular things to say, but I feel they need saying. These are just my opinions.

    (1) "Usability" is in the mind of the user. If you learned how to use some other system first and now expect that any other way of doing
    things isn't "usable" enough, that's just plain old resistance to change. It says more about you than it does about the usability of the software in question.

    It seems you've never used emacs, little one.
    And no, it doesn't say more about me than the software if I find that almost all GUIs in Linux are shit and that the command line is more usable.

    (2) "Designers" who can't code have absolutely no business "working" in software. If you think you really know how an interface should work and look, then learn to code it. Otherwise, you're just a critic of the kind that the NYT doesn't hire.

    The Gates Foundation may have picked them because of their race, their history or because they mostly don't belong to the middleclass. The reason, quite frankly, isn't that important and I don't care either. I'm not jealous.
    They just gave them computers.
    Gates didn't sign the contract with OnSat and Gates didn't make OnSat double-bill the Navajos.
    According to the article, the tribe's Division of Community Development picked OnSat and didn't pick the most cost-effective service in a fair bidding process, breaking federal rules and that's why they're now without internet access. Tough.

    Somehow I doubt Billy Boy Gates went to the reservoir - his Bear-Killer cocked and loaded - and made them pick OnSat just for the fun of seeing them - 8 years later - without teh interwebz.
    Now if it had been Ballmer it could be an elaborate plan to prevent them from using Linux.
    Joking aside, it's unreasonable to believe that Gates planned it all just to fuck with them like a little antfarm.
