I don't know how it is in the US, but over here in Europe a significant part the left has come down a nasty case of xenophobia disguised as protecting liberal values.
Sure we do. They are in excellent condition. Stored indoors most of the time. Only one owner. A sweet old lady who only used them on Sunday for going to church.
You can't go looking through the eyes of THE EMEMY. Before you know it you will recognise the humanity in THE ENEMY and suddenly bombing his family and stealing his recources will start to feel wrong. Can't have that now can we?
The ögon card case is made from aluminium sheet with a plastic interior. I wonder if the gap between the halves is small enough to protect the cards inside from sniffing. I haven't tried it on mine yet.
Pretty soon OLED technology can do everything SED could do while being cheaper to manufacture and using less power to run. Using SED in consumer products will be like using nixie tubes in digital wrist watches. Highly impractical.
What I'd really like is a 27" iPad running OSX with an integrated stand, a DVD burner and a place to plug in a keyboard and mouse. With gear like that I wouldn't even need the touch screen.
Don't worry. We're having a heated argument about the capabilities of fictional devices in Star Trek. That's pretty much the definition of old school Slashdot.
Of course if Amiga had made a tablet running BeOS the late nineties would be back and in effect.
Damn right! It's irresponsible to encourage impressionable youngsters to become dwarves.

Stephenson just wishes for an all-electronic publishing world because he wants the ability to retract old stuff.
You mean like the Big U? Who can blame him? That's a stinker.
You'll need a bigger dish to post first.
You need a good helping of horn-rimmed glasses, and a fetish for Bruce Sterling.

10 a=0

I hope that you're not teaching English.

Oh yeah! It'll be just like my camera phone going *click* and pretending to be a real camera.
I wonder how many decades we will be stuck with pointless throwbacks like this.

If your argument is that an iPad is good for sitting on the couch wasting your life, then I can both "get it" and "loathe it". Isn't life grand?

I tried that, but due to this new technology I can't successfully steal them anymore.

I see that you did there.
You're right. That's like comparing a Canon 7D to a Barbie Video Girl.
Liar! I know my science and my mathematics and I still haven't figured out how to become a velociraptor.
It means that even after China abolishes it's sweatshops there will still be a source of cheap unskilled labor in the world.
Aw nuts! For a second I thought you were talking about the Reaumur scale.

'For the 15 months Juno orbits Jupiter, the spacecraft will have to withstand the equivalent of more than 100 million dental X-rays,'
Nice image. Everybody hates dentists and their evil cancer rays.
[The] titanium box — about the size of an SUV's trunk — encloses Juno's command and data handling box...
Everything is better with titanium, and a proper car analogy on top of that.
The whole vault weighs about 200 kilograms (500 pounds)."
Metric first, and imperial units as backup. Very nice.
How about being gored by radioactive boar? which could happen to you today in Berlin, 25 years later and thousands of kilometers to the west.
and I feel that I'm too good for a mere iPad.
A fully metricated person would indeed have no scruples at all.
