It was an alright magazine in the 90s and eventually I got bored and decided to let my subscription lapse. Little does anyone know that in the fine print Wired will send you to a collections agency over their $12 yearly subscription for not renewing. Way to reward my years of subscriptions. Fuck them I hope they go under quicker than the newspapers.
Apple is the new Microsoft. Remember how Apple used to sue bloggers for just talking about an upcoming product? How about the kid who was selling white iphone skins, Apple shut him down in a hurry.
If you make an account and login to google it gives you the option of hiding domains but you have to visit them first for the hide option to show up. Someone also made a handy greasemonkey script if you want to go that route.
So why should intel have to write optimizations into their compiler for a competitor? The article basically says if it finds a non intel chip then all optimizations are turned off. Can this feature not be overidden? Sounds overblown if you ask me.
Any proof of these claims of compiler tampering? So why would you be using an intel compiler on AMD cpus? Does AMD not write one? Your third paragraph reads like an advertisement,
"Their netbooks and laptops all have smooth video and are easy to hook to a TV via HDMI thanks to the Radeon IGPs, their desktops are likewise great with smooth 1080p video and hardware acceleration of all the major formats as well as hardware transcoding, their triples and quads make a great centerpiece for a good cheap media box or HTPC, all in all they make a great consumer box that will do all your average person will ever want to do at a price they can easily afford without breaking the bank."
Seriously who talks like that besides maybe an AMD employee?
They have droid phones and everything down to cheap flip phones without a camera. $25 a month gets you 300 talk minutes and "unlimited" text/data without a contract. The best part is no hidden fees tacked onto that $25, just sales tax. Virgin uses the Sprint network so coverage is decent.
A Ford with a Chevy motor is an easy modification now because someone did all the hard work of making up a kit of motor mounts and associated parts to make it work. The first person who did the swap is another story, his was surely not as easy. A popular mod for older Jags is to swap in a small block Chevy with a GM alternator and transmission. Yes its a kit.
Years ago someone posted the "top secret" scientology documents into the comments and they were deleted. I can't recall if it was court ordered or merely a scare letter from an attorney.
Like in the old days when you had a cash register. All it did was be a cash register day in and day out without any problems. Currently most cash registers are cheap computers running complicated operating systems. The number of failure points is staggering.
You want digital controls? That's fine. Design some hardware to manage those controls and then STOP. You won't have to worry about drive failures, locking down USB ports, operating system updates, people doing things they shouldn't....
I read this story like a week ago when it hit Fark. The owner went to the police and they told him to piss off they can't do anything. So thats when vigilante justice took over and got shit done. However if the laptop was part of a drug investigation then no knock warrants and GPS surveillance would be in use that same day.
Know how I know that you've never worked in a full time job before? Its not your computer, it belongs to the company. I ran XP for years with 512mb and rarely had issues with swapping too much. The biggest ram hog was ATI's Catalyst software.
Do you honestly think he could win ANY court cases when dealing with a billion dollar company like Sony? They have lawyers on retainer so it costs them the same either way. You'd fold up too given the decision. If you want to fight Sony so bad man up and file a lawsuit yourself. His accomplishment is pretty amazing considering the money Sony can throw at locking you out.
Is this device even real or could it be a fake like the expensive handheld detector where you inserted a polaroid? How about all the money the feds paid to the guy who claimed Al Queda was broadcasting hidden messages and only his software could decode it? Just saying'.
Ever see an NFS server not work because the config file had a space instead of a tab? How about something not working because you picked two options that conflict with each other? A gui would not allow that. Thankfully apache split httpd.conf into multiple files because it was getting several thousand lines long. A gui could have all those options in a few tabs and a hovering help box if you really wanted.
Yeah yeah scripting blah blah, multiple setups, how about taking a screenshot of the gui?
TI no longer keeps stock on many chips. When the distributors run out the factory sits and waits for the orders to come in. Some of these chips have lead times of 26 weeks, half a year! You're basically screwed and have to start bargaining with brokers.
The religion of peace has struck again.
Good thing they aren't dealing with the UN. We all know how scary their actions are.
Hey its open source, aren't you reading every line of code that's run on your system?
Apple claims HTC is no longer relevant and Ford also claims GM is no longer relevant.
Seriously you're asking a linux developer his opinion on BSD? What answer were you expecting?

You have obviously never worked on a vehicle or done home improvement projects. Its one of the best rules to live by.

So its too difficult for you to tell a $10 from a $100 bill?

How big of a pipe does a country like Turkey really have?

Someone post the recipe already, sounds delicious.
Post more stories like this. This is what I read slashdot for.

All the CAD drawings done at my job will have to be in metric? How much will it cost to replace the millions of street signs and maps already in use?
