Have anything to do with the fact that this is perhaps the poorest album Moby's released since the hour long commercial soundtrack "Play". I think Moby was looking for an excuse for slacking album sales that sounded better than "This album is rubbish." Aha! The Pearl Jam Effect! I could go on, but I'll just make myself upset.

  6. Re:Hmmm. on Logitech Pocket Digital Review · · Score: 3, Insightful

Perhaps, if you had read the review, you would have noticed that they do not recommend the camera for print use, in fact:
"If you want a digital camera whose images you can print and frame on a shelf or wall, even sticking to 3 by 5- or 4 by 6-inch size, the Pocket Digital will disappoint."
And as far as "filling a screen", the review suggests its best uses are for emailing photos and publishing less-than-VGA size images on the web.

  7. Online Gaming with the PS2 on Game Developers Cracking Down on Cheating · · Score: 1

Not being able to wait for Sony's version of an ethernet adapter, my younger brother and I went out and bought a Linksys USB Ethernet adapter. Being that the only online game thus far was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, that's what we were playing. When we first started using it, we noticed people getting obscenely high scores. This was explained away on a few websites (and by players) as them just being *that good* at the game. However, a few online players conceded that they had gotten high scores by using a Game Shark.

The rumor mill has me believing that Activision (or whoever is running the game servers) is keeping an eye out for rampant cheaters, especially those using the Game Shark.

Another good move was that each individual server is set with a skill rating. For example, I absolutely suck at THPS3, so I would look for a lower skill level server. However, this doesn't keep cheating (or just exceptionally talented) players from coming in to these beginner's sessions and kicking everyone's ass.

I guess that was a little whiney. But it sort of takes away from the online experience when you know you suck, put yourself in a position where not being good at the game would be okay, and still have some ass clown rack up millions of points (legitemate or otherwise), while you're just trying to have some fun and perhaps compete a little.

    From the Apple Knowledge Base:

You may be unable to eject certain copy-protected audio discs, which resemble Compact Discs (CD) but technically are not.

The point here is that these *aren't* CD's. It may look like a CD, smell like a CD, and quack like a CD, but these -things- don't conform to the Compact Disc standard. If they're still putting a Compact Disc logo on these things, I think consumers have a right to be torqued.

  15. Re:WHRW, Binghamton on Internet Radio Day of Silence · · Score: 1

It's true that WHRW recieves most of it's funding from the school. However, consider that we've been streaming our feed on the net for *free* for the past two or three years. We have a budget of about $30,000 a year. That extra $500 - $1000 could be spent in so many, better ways. Incidentally, we (almost) broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It's easy to say, "It's only $500!" when you're not the one shelling it out. Granted, it's not my money either, but it's money that could be spent on fixing headphones, cd players, bringing bands to campus, etc. Is $500 a lot of money to spend on royalties? No. Do I want to spend $500 on royalties? No. Will I pull the plug on the feed if CARP's reccomendations go into effect? Yup. Hope you like ClearChannelInfinityCitadel.

Here at WHRW in Binghamton we pay ASCAP and BMI a flat annual fee. There's no way of telling how many people are listening at any given time with a traditional FM broadcast, although we guesstimate at any given moment we have about 1,500 listeners.

  18. WHRW, Binghamton on Internet Radio Day of Silence · · Score: 5, Informative

As General Manager of a small college radio station, here in Binghamton, NY I know a lot of people outside of our listening area depend on our RealAudio feed to get alternative news, music, and opinions. While it might piss them off that we're participating in the Internet Radio Day of Silence, it might make them angry enough to get involved. We have cut our feed and will be running Public Service Announcements on the air to get the word out. It's unfortunate that if CARP's decision goes through, we'll have to pull our Internet Feed. Small stations like ours (broadcast or just Internet) can't afford the high royalties. We already pay ASCAP and BMI, shouldn't that be enough!?

Actually, the StarOffice 6.0 Beta DID expire about a month ago. Running the application gave me a nice little dialog box saying "This Beta has Expired". I had to download a patch to extend it a couple months. Also, Sun plans on charging for Star Office 6.0, so I could care less when they release it, I won't be buying it.

Because maybe you're like me, someone who does a lot of things with Linux other than just surfing the web, coding, etc. I use my box to run several servers (HTTP, FTP, etc.) and also host several websites. I'm also the gateway for the network at my house. So if I decided I want to play Dark Age of Camelot in Windows Me, everyone who depends on my system being available 24/7 are screwed. Ideally, I would have a little windows box to play games on, but I don't have the money. If a quick download and compilation of some software is all it takes for me to play some games (while my machine stays available for those that need it) then I'm all over that. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten WineX to play any of my 'doze games aside from Solitaire (cough) but I'm hoping the availability of Direct X 8 in WineX 2 will change that.
