Why can't we send up a robot craft to attach to old/broken sats and fire it's thrusters to deorbit it? Hubble has an attachment point for just such a task, which makes it somewhat simpler.
EXACTLY. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. The whole mail analog fails as mail is a physical item, and if protected by an envelope, not viewable by third parties. Postcards ARE VIEWABLE by third parties since they have no envelope. Same holds true for email. I would argue that encrypted email should be treated like a letter, not a post card, based on the analogy.
Like we will ever be going there in our lifetimes. NASA has effectively had it's balls cut off. When the people vote themselves Bread and Circuses (i.e. "spread the wealth around"), all useful discretionary spending will get diverted to social programs to keep them happy.
a-f'ing-men brother. Now the most far reaching plans can only be 4 years as you now the next administration will screw with what has already been decided. At least Kennedy proposed something that we stuck to for a while. Even then the program was cut short.
How is that Hope and Change working out for you NASA.
I see this as a way to siphon off funds to be redirected to more social programs (I mean buy votes).
Flame On!
The Chinese are all about assimilation of technology. And most companies are happy to help. Boeing, you want to sell us planes, then you have to build some components here. Bring in your fancy machine tools and expertize.
Where are the jobs going to be created? Best Buy and Walmart. Considering all TVs are now designed and produced overseas I can't see were any jobs would be created?
That is the dedicated internal flash storage. You can add a micro SD for much more. BUT, the actually phone OS, data, and programs are stored and run in a dedicated 256MB ram. And that is double of the original.
As a former Storm owner I think RIM has gone a long way to fixing several of the idiotic design choices (compromises) in the Storm Mk1. I never had a problem with the click screen after applying some recommended fixes. I hope the build quality had been improved as I went through 4 phones before giving up.
Probably the biggest issue I had with the phone (as a smartphone) was the terrible memory management. Blackberry, while they advertize several gigs of internal storage, use a small dedicated memory pool for the OS, program storage, and data (email) storage. On the original that was 128 MB. Just turning the phone on dropped that to 50 MB usable and after loading several apps, it would drop to 10-20. At that level the phone became very sluggish. And the OS have a propensity to leak memory so that as the day went on your usable memory level would continue to fall to the point where you had to pull the battery to reset the phone.
As soon as extra money from the new fees rolls in their shareholders will start screaming that it belongs to them.....
Could it be THAT IT DOES BELONG T THEM. Shareholders OWN THE FREAKIN COMPANY. That is the way it still works here in the USA - well at least until the socialists change all that.
This is not a popular idea and most say it is a fail, but we need to start charging for each email sent, not much, but enough so that zombie box owners will wake up when their next monthly bill arrives. But the email charge must be ultimately paid by the ISPs who are the actual gateways onto the net. This way they too have an incentive to stop the flow of spam. And since the ISP must pay or be disconnected, third-world spam would dry up too. Use the money generated for backbone maintenance/improvement.
Flame on.
Kinda on topic...
I was once called to sit on a Jury in a civil case. When asked by the judge if I had any objections to being a juror I honestly told him "I believe there are too many lawsuits in this country." It was like I had the plague. They had me out of there within 30 seconds. What was funny is as I was being lead out of the room the defendants counsel objected to my dismissal. Of course the judge did not agree.
A proper caning followed by some time is in order here. A little corporal punishment could go a long way. It may push the risk/reward ratio for petty shit like this up a bit.
I guess these guys did not read: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy XP extended support goes thru 2014 and supposedly covers security fixes. I would think this counts as a security fix.
That damn unshielded reactor just keeps causing us problems - damn it, damn it to hell.
But seriously, this kind of reminds me of the Tacoma Narrows bridge failure. Second order forces thought to be inconsequential end up causing a dramatic change in behavior.
Also, the vitriol of many comments is amazing. Probably sounds just like the Church when discussing a certain Italian.
As a VW owner, I can attest to the benefits of "hacking". How about adding 50 HP (and lots of torque) with a software upgrade.

OMG, the Times and WSJ. Steve is shaking in his loafers.
I can see it now. Mesothelioma, YAZ and now McAfee lawsuit ads trolling for money.
Ha ha - And that's all have to say about that.

Owe the back $100,000 and the Bank OWNS YOU owe the bank $8,000,000,000,000 and YOU OWN THE BANK.

You have anger issues dude. Former BB-douchbag (very eloquent) and now an iPhone-douchbag.
No, how about giving them front row seats in the flame diverter trench instead. At least they would have NO CHANCE of coming back.
From the MS intercom system... "Paging Mr. Balmer. Your expertise is needed in HR for some water boarding! And bring a chair too."
If "genetic defect" means having a cell phone grown onto your ear at birth, then yes, I absolutely agree.

So is Ballmer tossing chairs about?? I think not. Probably sitting back with a smile on his face.
