Austin, Texas. Sheltered bus stop about every two blocks along all major bus routes. So taking the bus takes FOREVER, which is why no one takes the f*cking bus unless they absolutely have to. And the bus will stop at any corner if passengers request it.
Yeah, if you can't walk at least 1km, you should probably have a wheelchair. If it's just because you're lazy, then you should be walking anyway.
Personally I think bus stops are too close together. Put them at least 1/2 mile apart and ONLY stop at corners in between if the passenger is disabled.
I have built 4 small houses/cabins, a couple barns and other structures. Your main expenses will be for utility hookups.
I have a ranch, so my experience is somewhat different since I don't have to pay much heed to local permits and regulations. I just make sure I build above code so everything works well.
Building costs are not much for a simple structure. Your major costs are going to be a septic system or sewer hookup, water and electric hookup. I can build (and have built) a small cabin with bedroom, bathroom, closet, living room, kitchen and porch for under $5000 in materials. But a small septic system, a well and electric hookup will cost over $10,000 in my area, and that's if I build the septic system myself. Just sewer hookup in a city can cost anywhere from $5000 to $20,000 or more. Electric hookup can be between $500 and $3000. Not sure about water hookup, but a well ain't cheap.
So first concentrate on the utilities. That will let you know if you can afford it.
I've often thought a service like this would be great for travelers.
I'm married and have lots of friends, but many times I've traveled to new places by myself and had no freaking idea what to do or where to eat (and I hate generic chain restaurant food), so it would be worth $30-$40 for someone to show you around for a couple of hours.
Actually, it you've taken your computer on any air travel you have greatly increased the chances of damage by cosmic rays. My company has to take this loss into account every time we ship a load of wafers overseas.
Of course, we're usually shipping hundreds of thousands to millions of die at a time, so we see it a lot more often.
Summary is misleading. TFA doesn't go into detail about age testing. I imagine they temperature test these chips by "aging" them in an oven at 250C for several days.
We do that with the chips we make at my company. It's a pretty reliable indicator of data longevity.
The difference is that with a car there are very few situations where you would need to go 90 MPH +
I can tell you don't live west of the Mississippi River. There's a LOT of open country to cover out here. Most Interstate Highway speed limits are 80, which means you'll get passed a lot if you do 80.
And your phone will drop calls faster since you move out of range a lot faster.
The world needs scientists, too.
But you'll get crappy service at the Sonic because they'll assume you're a bad tipper.
Next thing you know they'll make you stick a quarter in a slot for three more "lives" in the game.
Just write down your password in a convenient & easily accessible location near entry point. Problem solved.
I guarantee that everyone reading this just thought of those Post-its on his/her PHB's desk.
At least the PHB's secretary has the good sense to put the Post-it with the password in her drawer, where no one would ever think to look.
Did they hear about the three legged dog that walked into a saloon?
The barkeep asked him what he wanted.
He said: "I'm lookin' for the man that shot my paw!"
Putting the "sensual" back in "non-consensual" :)
I am so stealing that.
Those dudes that attacked Dan Rather must've just thought he was a dealer!
But now we KNOW the frequency, Kenneth!
And my porn keeps scrolling rapidly up and down the screen!
Well it is asteroid "Lutetia" which was the Roman name for the city of Paris, and Paris IS the "City of Light"
So of course we can see it!
-yeah, it's a stretch.
Listen, If you're going to make sense and ask people to do their jobs properly, I'm going to have to ask you to leave /.
And the Internet in general.

But now I remember and want to go to the Wicked Laser web site and buy stuff.
Thanks for reminding me, George! Say hi to Babs Streisand when you see her!
Last I heard you still need septic off the grid. Unless you were planning to use an outhouse.
And you'll NEVER get any hot chicks to come to your groovy off-grid house if you only have an outhouse.

HDWhat?
Am I the only person that still has a TV with a picture tube that connects to that fancy DVD player via RCA jacks?
And I likes it!
Everybody knows those grocery store "loyalty cards" are the real Mark of the Beast!
I've always wondered: If you have more than one "loyalty card", does that make you a traitor or just a whore?
Remember how this "science" stuff is viewed with derision by the American Taliban.
If the arch-conservatives come back into power, they may make you cut off your arm so you don't spread "science" to our childrens!

I live WAY out in the country. We have NO cell service at home. But we have broadband and a wifi router. Many of the Nokia phones work fine with wifi.
My wife and I each have Nokia 6301b phones and they work great at home through the wifi.
Just be sure to turn on your QOS so that when the kids are watching Hulu they don't hog all your bandwidth.

Not to mention that 90% of statistics are made up.
14% of all people know that.
